A red fox has been casing the neighborhood here. Stan sees it every morning and grabs photos. This was the best photo he got of it...Stan saw it two days in a row now with a squirrel in its mouth....the fox turned around and stared Stan down today with the squirrel in its mouth...i have not seen it yet.....but I hear about it every day and see the photos.....This photo was taken about 4/10 of a mile away from us. I hope it stays away from here.
Today it was at the end of our road near our garbage bins.
I saw a black big fox last year here near our road.

I forgot to bring Visine to work. Watching several monitors for hours takes a toll on your eyes. Only about 9 hours to go though.

Somebody should trap it and relocate it.

Try some of these home remedies! Tea bags, cold water compress, chilled spoon, etc. http://vkool.com/how-to-treat-red-eyes/

I'll try all if those, but I can already hear my fellow coworkers making teabag jokes as soon as they see one on my face.

Ugh right?! Same here! This afternoon I was watching the sky debating if I needed to water my flowers. Se neighbors ended up coming over around the point where I decided it wasn't going to rain and I got distracted and didn't water them anyways, but will definitely need to in the morning before it dries out too much.

I live in the weirdest dry patch. It seems like every other part of town gets a good afternoon storm every day and it completely bypasses us.

Where this neighborhood is is just a couple of blocks of houses surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness and woods, where all of the other foxes and coyotes and bears live...where I am in the woods........so why the fox is out and about, when they usually do not act like this is strange. To see one around here in daylight is rare....
Someone just told me it could be rabid to be out and about and so showy about itself, as that is not how healthy foxes behave....they do stay out of sight and basically go out and about at night.....

The raccoon here have become urbanized. There are hundreds of acres of woods behind my house but they choose to come up to my porch in the daylight to eat cat food.

Yeah, maybe this is just a social, different fox. I just told Stan it could be rabid, and he said possibly, but he does not think so. It did not have a wild look in its eyes, was never foaming at the mouth...and was cute...he said...LOL

Whatever, I will be on guard and will not go near it.......no thanks. I am not going to take any chances with a fox..... :D

I was going to say it sounds rabid because that definitely isn't how healthy foxes act. Everytime in the last 10 yrs or so that I've heard a fox is out and about around houses and neighborhoods in the day time, it has always turned out to be rabid. There are plenty of woods and outlying areas where foxes can hunt without seeing people.

Just as you said...if you are basically surrounded by woods and y'all are seeing it out and about in the day...oh my that isn't good at all. :-/

edit: of course I was talking about foxes around here in the past 10 yrs...in my county. The news is really good about publicizing when a rabid animal is found around here.

One of the houses out there had 4 chickens which are not there wandering the neighborhood anymore...hmmmm...Maybe this is why the fox took up with the neighborhood. these people that had the chickens have also been having a lot of barbecues lately....so i don't know if that is what happened to their chickens. I do not know them well enough to ask.

Yeah...I tend to think along these lines, as well.....It just isn't how a normal fox behaves when there are miles of woods to be away from any humans at all........more than a few blocks where it seems to be seen every day for a week now.

I found this on the web about rabid fox....as I started feeling very sad for the fox if it is rabid, and i wanted ot know if it is in pain........

"Several possibilities are at play here. First, there are many rodents are where you live and the fox might actually be doing you a favor by killing pests in and around your house. Second, when you saw the fox, how was his demeanor. Usually, a fox will flee or try to be as discrete as possible when humans are in proximity. This behavior elongates a fox's life. Also, another viable reason why your yard keeps the fox present could be any small pets that you own (cats, guinea pigs, small dogs/puppies). Now, a rabid fox within 20 -180 days will die from the disease. In the meantime, if you see the fox, notice its behavior. If it' acting unusual, unnaturally tamed, showing unprovoked aggression , circling, constantly watching you, self-mutilation or if you are outside your yard he closes the distance and comfortably trots around, immediately get to a safe place, call nearby humane society professional and do not try to handle the situation alone. Constant calling (sounds) especially late in the middle of the night can be a sign of other hazardous infectious the fox might possess and also can be a sign of a rabid fox."

We have 3 raccoon out here this year.

Last year one was in the carport during the day and it was falling about. Hubby had to shoot it. He still didn't think it had rabies. He thought it was sick with something else.

This one raccoon that comes out during the day isn't sick; it just wants lunch.

I thought I read somewhere, I think, that an animal with rabies will have problems with it's back legs when it tries to walk.

Look at this: Here are the rabies symptoms you may see in wild animals:
    1. unprovoked aggression ("furious" rabies). Some animals may attack anything that moves, or even inanimate objects.
    2. unusual friendliness ("dumb" rabies).
    3. animal may stumble, fall, appear disoriented or uncoordinated, or wander aimlessly.
    4. paralysis, often beginning in the hind legs or throat. Paralysis of the throat muscles can cause the animal to bark, whine, drool, choke, or froth at the mouth.
    5. vocalizations ranging from chattering to shrill screams.
    6. nocturnal animals may become unusually active during the day (remember, some daytime activity is normal, especially when nocturnal animals are feeding their young).
    7. raccoons walk as if they're on very hot pavement.
Skunks, raccoons, foxes, and dogs usually display furious rabies. http://nwco.net/044-wildlifediseases/4-1-2-symptoms.asp

I think the fox in your photo looks very healthy. It's not skulking about.
