Tossup between Mannerland and Smilefest. Both were great musically. I'm leaning more towards Mannerland because of the size of the festival.
in one month from now: www.magmusic.com an excellent Florida festival well worth the drive and price of admission and the drum circles last until dawn...lots of energy happening there
I saw that show in Aug in Chicago, it was amazing. YMSB is my favorite and it was so amazing to see everyone just dancing and getting so into the show. I almost fainted though because it was so hot and i was dancing so much but besides that it was amazing. I also went to a folk festival that was incredible.
Actually, there was only show I saw this summer - the Rock Odyssey in Yokohama, but it awesome because the RHCP rocked
this summer? Hands Down, The Dead, Detroit DTE, July 27 2004. and I got the show DL'd off furthernet. How sweet is that. I love getting the shows I been to on my pc.and because I dont host any data here is a link to a sweeeeet chinacat: http://http://www.scsv.nevada.edu/~rugotzke/MP3/GD1973_10_25_a_China_Cat.mp3
I would have to say the best Show/ event / festival! would have to be SHAMBHALA!!!!!!! in the heart of the kootanys Nelson b.c.!!!!! A 3 day gathering for the most incredable experience www.Shambhalamusicfestival.com
My favorite fest was definately Bonnaroo. My favorite show of the summer was either Phish at Camden or the Dead at Darien Lake.
Hmmm Big Day Out 2004 was kool. Lots and lots of bands and stalls and sun....twas great. cant wait for BDO 2005 Auckland.
Hmmm. I have to disagree with some of you. I too seen the Dead at Bonnaroo and I guess all the rain and lightening and mud put me in not the best mood. Then they went on really late. I loved the performance but there were better performances at Bonnaroo this past year. My favorite festival was moe.down but that's probably just because of my preference in music. I had a great time in Turin this year though and besides Bonnaroo that's the one festival I'm planning on going to for sure next year. My favorite single show? Probably the Allman Bros show in Cleveland.
Mean ass ELITIST comment coming... The Dead don't compare to The Grateful Dead... It's all some meaningless parade of nostalgia... Jerry's been dead for nearly a decade, and the grandfathers in the band are all millionaires, I would imagine, unless a life of decadent excess prevented that. I wish The Dead would hang it up... No matter how it's packaged, it will NEVER equal Jerry and the boys jamming together... So, if you can't realize your former greatness, why keep up the charade. Down with The Dead! There is tons of NEW music to listen to...And I'm not talking about Phish... Reformed DeadHead signing off...
I want to throw my vote toward Jerry's B-Day Bash in Terra Alta. String Cheese played three amazing shows. I danced like a madman.
well if you weren't around for the grateful dead can't you enjoy the next best thing.. i mean'm only 19 so i wasn't around for the grateful dead.. or at least i was realllllly young.. so why not just enjoy what's left?
In May 2003 I saw Dylan with my best friend in Cary,NC. I paid and it was so cool! In July 2004 I went to the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC to see a cover band do some Beatles songs and they played a movie "Concert for George." The band actually did pretty well. They did "I am a Walrus" which is a hard song to play. In August 2004 my best friend and I saw the Dead in Raleigh, NC. It was groovy! I loved the people and all the nice vibes that was goin on. Got a contact buzz. As for the summer of 2005...I want to take my Husband to see Dylan because he has never been to a concert before and I feel that oughta be his first one
I disagree with you. They play because they enjoy playing. Jerry always said that they would have to drag him off the stage kicking and screaming and shouting! They continue to play because they enjoy it, the fans want it, and thats the best thing to do in the spirit of The Grateful Dead. I don't think ANYONE is assuming that it "Will equal the former greatness" I think they are just happy to be able to play and will continue to play until they can no longer hold the instruments or people stop coming to see them. Long live the boys in the band!!!
