Being trendy isn't about being comfortable. Just ask the girl wearing the miniskirt when it's minus 10 degrees outside. Skinny jeans for guys can't be comfortable. There's a reason they all walk like the Tin Man...
Clothes aren't comfortable full stop. Unless it's cold, but even then... How many businessmen do you see walking around in full suits when it's stinking hot outside? It's insane the lengths people go to for fashion. I don't find pants comfortable at all (prefer shorts or nothing) but need to wear them for work. Most of the world is hipster whether we like it or not.
^ Like a very arrogant tin man. It's another reason that they're so fucking ironic, because they try to strut in jeans they can barely walk in.
Bravo my friend! Bravo! An excellent observation Seemingly the only person who saw how silly it is to hate on those weirdos..
I just realized the other day that there have always been hipsters and they always have been called hipsters. Here is a brief definition: Slumming Rich Kids. Back in the fifties it was the rich kids that were hanging out in Harlem and other black neighborhoods dressing all in black with a cursory knowledge of the culture they were aping. There is a famous story about a picture being taken of Dizzy Gillespie after he got out of the mens room. Apparently he forgot to zip his fly. The hipsters started walking around with their fly's unzipped after that. Then there were the Early Mod's who would buy brand new Levis and then take a bath in them to shrink them to skin tight. There were all kinds of hangers on on the hippie scene that weren't entirely down with it. Disco. Self explanitory. So the Modern Hipster chooses to live in low rent ethnic neighborhoods (like the Mission in SF) and drink cheap shitty beer (PBR) and ride the most dangerous bicycle known to man. They think they are are being Ironic in their fashion statement although it would be more Ironic if they wore that vintage Poison t-shirt because they actually liked Poison. They have contempt for everyone but other hipsters believing themselves to be superior to everyone else because everyone else is either stupider or lamer then they are. Yet they choose an anti-cool aestehetic that actually is ironic in the fact that they think they are cooler because of it. They also have a general tendency to judge the world based on their lack of experience. They only date and interact with each other leading to what almost becomes hipster inbreeding. Thus they all dress the same and act retarded. I don't judge these chumps on how they look I judge them on how they act. If you spend enough time face to face with them they will bug you too. Pretentious pseudo-intellectuals who wear clothes that are supposed to be unconventional but are actually trendy and expensive. They hang out in Starbucks writing crappy poetry they think is profound and won't listen to a band if someone else has heard of it. I think that's the right definition lol. Back in the 40s and 50s a hipster was someone from the jazz and writing and drug scenes, they were a precursor to the 60s movement.
I don't think so. This is the first I've heard of them. Since I got out of the industry I know that "Allen's" (I think they were around since about '75) got bought out by "Special T" creating a Crackhead messenger company merger. Since so much is being done online alot of companies are going under. The Legal guys are still making mad scratch (upwards of $20 an hour) because they also serve as process servers and need to file paperwork get signatures etc. I know a little off subject but oh well. This thread is just a joke (to me) about the way that people get into these fads and start acting the way it dictates just so they can think they're cool. Ahmad- I wouldn't look at a person dressed in plaid and actually go "Ew, I'm not talking to them". I'll talk to them and see what they're really like because for some people it's just about style. If they are really saying "Oh, it's something you've never heard of, I'm better than you", etc. then I'll just tell them "You're an idiot, and being just as judgmental as anyone else is of you. Goodbye now."
I just don't understand where you people get that a whole subculture of people automatically think they're better than you, and that you think they think this because of some taste they have. I just haven't noticed this. There's snobs in every culture, doesn't mean it has anything to do with the culture. There's lots of hippie snobs who are totally unbearable douchebags..... And what the fuck is with hating on peoples taste in jeans? As a guy who's worn tight jeans, I can tell you, they can be comfortable. SUPER skin tight never is, but girls of almost every culture are quite guilty of THAT. If you wear jeans that are too small, it's not comfortable, if they're skinny, it's just fine, and skinny does NOT automatically mean they're nuthuggers.
It's not a subculture nor a social movement as some people here say.. It’s a state of mind. One in which can be defined in my opinion as an individual whom lacks some sort of inner passion and creativity and therefore picks up on whatever they are exposed to in terms of fashion and philosophy in an attempt to find acceptance in meaning to compensate their lack of character. They in turn treat these ideals as a trend. I'm sure you could find many of these ppl even on hp. Many people "hate" on them because these "hipsters" may have been exposed to in-depth original ideals of theirs and so picked it up as a trend and many find a sense of hypocrisy in this. And then the ego has a field day. The whole ordeal of hipsters and hippies is rather ironic..heh.
My friend told me a hipster was somebody who wrote about things they don't like in society, and try to change it. Now I'm even more confused...although, I found the video funny
That's exactly the stereotype. That they think they're better than you because what they like is more unique and special than anything you like. It doesn't necessarily apply. It can for a few, but those are just the people who are idiots. Idiots are the reason any stereotype is circulated.
