I remember the same damn thing. bikers with tats were so bitchin when I was a kid, now we got fake bikers with weak tats, what the hell is this world coming to? does anyone NOT have a tattoo? I am almost ashamed that I have them b/c the thrill has been absolutely gone for years now. people are so lame. haha But I honestly can appreciate a really cool looking one.

    I don't have any tattoos :D.
I can appreciate it as an art form, but some folks do take it a little overboard.

The only tattoos I would ever consider would be if something were to happen to one of my kids, then I would probably have some type of commemorative tat done.
Actually tattoos that are very personal and significant are the only one's I feel would be worth getting. I would never get one "off the shelf" that's for sure.
Getting random pics and symbols "just because" is asinine IMHO.

i'm considering getting my first tattoo to commemorate graduation (assuming i graduate lol) but i have no idea what to get at the moment.

i tend to agree that the only tattoos that really interest me are highly personal ones, ones which tell some kind of story about the tattooee, this is primarily because im too poor to afford anything large where i would probably be more concerned about aesthetics, but i've heard some really good reasons for getting purely meaningless decorative ones done. for example, i had a mate whose traumatic past experiences had left her completely hating her body, for her, decorative tattoos were a means of reclamation, of making her body a positive thing again.

i'd never really thought of it that way. some childhood bullying left me with a somewhat negative body image, not extreme, but the possibilities of tattooing in this regard are kind of interesting.

Oh you got that right. I just saw a lady with Betty Boop......really lady? what is her excuse for this excruciatingly irksome piece?

I agree with this too, at least people have a reason for some of their tats, they didn't just pick a random stencil out of a book like Jon Bon Jovi and his superman tat haha

There are posts on here saying only a certain criteria of people can get tattoos. People can do whatever they want. Don't worry about them. If they do get stupid tattoos though, it's only going to hurt them because they'll regret it later. I'm a fan of tattoos (meaningful ones) and I'd say that there is a good thing about how tattoos have become mainstream now..they're more socially acceptable so people are less likely to have problems when trying to find employment or something along those lines.

I've dated two chicks, and have seen several more, with the same anchor tatt. Kind of a Sailer Jerry style. The first girl had in memory of her Grandpa, who was a sailer. But the other chick had it just because it looked cool.

I don't mind tattoos becoming more mainstream, because there are more tattoo shops to choose from, more original and beautiful tattoos getting done and better experiences for costumers (at least in my country). Got my first one when I was sixteen and trembled through the three hours it took in a studio full of skinheads (it was the only one available then). I also get much more understanding from coworkers and clients, then I used to and don't have to hide them all the time anymore.

I have one, and looking to get another.
But when people tell me they want a tattoo, I generally tell them to think about it for at least a YEAR before committing to it.
All these ugly-ass "just because the tattoo parlor was open" tats are a waste of time, money and skin.

HAHA, I like that FlowerMama, you are truly correct. When I was 16 and a mindless jackass, I went to get my first tattoo, I thought I'd be cool if I got the dancing bear, the tattoo guy talked me right out of it and I am glad he did or I would be one of those brainless dimwits walking around with an overused tattoo. Not that the one I got that day is much better but still....luckily they are all hidden! tattoo schmattoo heh

    The usual...
dandellion, butterfly, rose, birds flying, birds not flying, "This too shall pass", the first initial of a loved one/the name of your lover, birth date, clown, spanish skull, ...
And lyrics of a song you liked for a month, but can really find yourself in it right away (Lana del ray style).

I am not a fan of tats in general.

    I rather like the feather.

My daughter had this one done and while I would rather she had not, it is a saying that she loves and the tat is well done. She is having some of the birds touched up this week....better her than I. :)
