So you've been able to establish a documented link between your family and these ancient kings? Or are you simply basing this off of a shared surname?

So no hard documentation showing the link? Does anyone in your family have the documentation showing what you claim?

I'd be careful when it comes to things like this, Roamy. A lot of people, at least in my experience, start studying their family genealogy thinking certain things are "facts" (ie your family supposedly being descended from Irish royalty) only to find that there is no evidence to support such "facts" or that those "facts" are flat out wrong.

So, I take that as no, there is no evidence to support your or your family's claim that you are descended from Irish royalty. Whatever you have to tell yourself to feel special I guess....

Technically a person is as responsible for what he/she has inherited as much as a baby is for the state of it's country. I have since long found it a bit strange to take pride in things you can't do anything about/didn't have any part contributing to.

And yet those things are a part of you and help make who you are.

Surely. But if you haven't contributed to it/done anything for it why take pride in it that wasn't even a conscious decision for you to make? It is all a coincidence where you are born or in which family. Now, when you have helped shaped your country during your life I can imagine a righteous pride in what it is and has become. Same with a family surname that is known for something as being royal/100 year family business etc. etc..

Ehh, do me, I view it as being proud of your family's accomplishments. If your family helped shape a nation or a people, I don't think it is odd to take pride in that or to take pride in being part of what they accomplished.

It is not odd because it is commonly seen as normal but when I think about it (and unfortunately I did :p), it IS odd to me.
