this is exactly what i mean though. you can believe in anything. but if you can't prove something exist, then it is fair to say that it may not exist at all. therefor, you can't leave justice in the hands of karma. laws are necessary not only as a punishment for people who hurt other people, but also as a deterant to keep people from commiting crimes in the first place.

i dunno about that....our overflowing jails, increasing recidivism rates & rise in violent crimes proves otherwise.

plus, cops can't come until AFTER something happens-laws don't prevent shit.

neodude while I may not agree with much of what you post, I really do value most of your contributions. Punishment for crime is a factor which limits it, but from what I have seen, it is not the answer. There is surely a better way to reduce crime than to make examples out of people. From what I have been exposed to, the people who pay for crimes are always the small fish and the truly innocent. At any rate, an eye for an eye solves nothing. The justice system is more than flawed.

many of you understand my opinions already. The growing problem of police brutality and anti-privacy laws are just the beginning. Our statistics just keep getting worse. With so many people packing our prisons and 1/7 of them proven innocent later, we really need to step up and do something. How could anyone believe that it is fair that half of the people imprisoned in this country for drugs are put their for marijuana. The majority of people in prison are there for non-violent crimes, mostly drugs. This system is becoming less and less friendly to the average joe. We need to reform this bullshit before it is too late.

Those who do believe in karma and don't wish to participate in negative karma will move away from those who do. They will live a peaceful life, where everyone of their community is highly concious of their actions and all it's implications. While the people who refuse to become concious of their actions will just go around commiting more negative karma in their community and eventually the community will implode on itself.

You seem to think karma needs to be proven? Is mainstream American society not enough evidence for you? It perfectly demonstrates what happens when a mass of people run around doing whatever, thinking they don't need to be concious of their thoughts, feelings and actions.

There are communities out there that are highly functional because everyone fully believes in karma and is thus very aware of everything they do and how it will effect everything.

Karma is not really a mystical thing at all. It's quite simple. If people in a community don't take full account for their thoughts, feelings and actions. Then there gonna be the broken cogs of society. Enough people like that and the whole machine is gonna be fucked.

It seems absurd that your asking for someone to 'prove' karma to you. Thats just asking someone to prove to you why you should take account for everything you do, think, say, feel and experience in your life. Which doesn't need to be proven, it's just common sense. No one can prove common sense to you, you just gotta start paying attention to whats already there. Absolutely everything you do has an effect in some way.

exactly. to put it really simply--notice how things tend to go smoothly or people are nicer when you are in a great mood? do you notice that when you walk around like a gloomy asshole life seems to piss all over you? karma.

basically, the more people who believe in karma the better the world will be. everyone who understands karma will naturally help others to understand. those of us who are "highly conscious of their actions and all it's implications" must take it upon ourselves to influence the world in whatever way we can. you dont have to be a famous musician to have a powerful enough a voice to make a difference although it would help. the louder your voice the more of positive effect you will have but even if you only influence your immediate family you have done your part.

i am putting a band together. a psychedelic alternative jam band. i write music to spread a message of peace, love and understanding. through my music people will learn how to let go of their fear and learn to understand karma. so i will use music to spread my message.

we are already doing something right here by talking about it on a public forum but what else are you going to do?

listen i didn't say if it is true or not of if I need help deciding. and karma isn't common sense for a lot of people. all im saying is that if you can't prove it, then not eveyone is going to go along with the notion of it. and if not everyone participates, then you can't have this utopia that you guys are dreaming of. and mara, laws do deter criminals. if you know there will be a punishment, many people chose not to break the law in the first place.

then i am not sure why you didn’t want to read this thread. we are not talking about what i see as a perfect society at all. we are talking about how we could make our society fair. the current governments and the systems that are in place for us are not fair. that is what we are talking about. we are not arguing over who’s perfect world is better. if you have any thing to say i am sure we would like to read it. so far all you did is demonstrate how much you don't understand what we are talking about. almost insinuating that it is a waste of our time to talk about such things. but that was based on the assumption you made that we are looking for a perfect world. now that you understand that what we are talking about is how can we make society better for everyone maybe you will have something to add seeing that you try to make the world a better place everyday. how would you make the world a better place? what do you think is wrong with society?

but if you think the way you do it is only wrong if you get caught. that would mean that all you have to do is get away with a crime and you will not suffer any consequence. you see, the idea that we need police actually gives strength to the belief that there is no such thing as karma. so having police around makes people think that there is no consequence other than jail time. this actually makes it easier to commit a crime.

when you understand karma you understand how there is never a way to get away with any thing. all good things will be rewarded as all bad things will be punished.

the truth is that murder is wrong and the murderer will suffer whether or not they get caught.

Who says you need the whole world to wake up to be in utopia?

Just me and say 20 good highly concious people living somewhere for the rest of our lives could be my utopia.

I'm still trying to piece things together. I like 3D software and the sort, so probably something through that. But I'm still helping other people on their projects, haven't embarked on my own yet.

absolutely wonderful post rygoody. It brightens my day when I read a post like this. I noticed this very thing. More specifically how people just sort of "coincidentally" find themselves in the same neighborhood when they have the same karma. I don't believe in coincidence.. period.

Perhaps you still don't understand neodude. It doesn't matter at all if the land we live on is occupied by a country because we are each responsible for our own actions. A small community of people with good karma in the middle of a big city can still be heaven.

Why would it need to be outside of all pre-existing societies? It's not like living with rule enforcement on a spiritual level requires you not to be in the areas governed by police. The only principle police would disagree with are the possible usages of drugs. But like thats much of an issue anyway.

There is plenty of open land out there, if you wanted to get away from societies. But I think it could function right in the middle of a major metropolitan area just fine if you wanted it to.

"Disconnecting" or "dropping out" of society does not mean you leave all physical relations of it behind. It just means you leave all psychological connections to it behind.

The injustices, corruptions and hypocrisies of this world run so deep that it would take a lot to ever put things right. At the same time, those that have the power to help every person choose not to. This lack of realisation is a great shame, and frankly who cares that we pay taxes? we get taxed a lot in the uk but I feel thankful that I live in a place where I can get a free education and be payed a fair wage. Try living under a dictatorship with no civil liberties or free speech or be dying of famine and disease somewhere that governments don't give a shit about funding, then taxes might seem a little less unfair.

^^^ a lesser of evil is still evil

because it could be worse is no reason not to make it better.

seeing what is wrong with society is not to be ungrateful. you can be thankful for what you have and still want more. in a way we have many freedoms but we are not completely free so we would be foolish to accept society as is. like i said in the op we need society and we do not want to do anything that could destroy what we already have. realizing that life could be better and that there is a way is a very important step in the process and i wonder why so many people are so quick to suggest that we are wasting our time with foolish dreams.
