why do you assume time isn't linear?

We truly just have the "now" everything else is either speculative or exists as a memory in our minds.

Yes we do need a conscious observer to feel, see and meager time but only to a point as in to give it a name to bring it in to the light of day. Take the energy conservation law nature plays with the world its abstract and its fun but in the end nothing is gained nothing is lost what happened some may say nothing some may say time no matter what u call it is happening.

What I was thinking to work out time u need to go back to the basics the big bang they say before that there was no time and that’s that. For me time was there but only the future existed there was no passed there was no present. What is future its possibilities right there for time is possible coordinates for energy in space. What’s funny to me is that following this logic present moment is the imaginary part seens anything that happens becomes the passed at the same moment. This is where the observer comes in we can recognize the possibilities by doing so we go from our possibility of existence as a being to a realization of being and then in contrast realization of the choice that we made to observe a possibility in a way that we did which give raise to self and this transition period which we call time or reaction. In another words future (possibility) present (unconscious self) passed (realization or conscious self) future present passed… circle.

And yes I am thinking that the universe is some sort of an observer =/

Time is what I don't have to scare the shit out of myself. Yes, I know, I'm here, so I obviously do. Just thought it was clever.

time is a measurement of how long it takes the earth to circle the sun and how long it takes the moon to circle the earth. What we percieve as linear is really cyclical.

if you think time is linear you haven't used enough hallucinogenic drugs.

As others have stated ‘time is consciousness’ [IMG]

What does the shape of our solar system have to do with taking hallucinogenic drugs?

Time is not linear because it isn't really anything, it's a word, for what happens. It could all be happening at once. This goes back to our previous discussion.

Time is both real and not: it depends on what you expect from the "real." Things happen and we perceive them. But time is not a phenomenon you can find or categorize. It is a perception, and it represents something which (presumably) has some basis in a reality external to us. But the universe doesn't work on minutes and seconds; things happen, and all that is really real is what exists right now (on a quantum level, what is happening right now). It's not that it's not real: it's real in the sense that it is a representational system, and the human brain is the interpreter. We need to revise our ideas about what is real and what isn't to accommodate these created structures.

nothing. those were two separate statements.

hallucinogens have a way of getting the mind outside the constraints of time.

Do you manage to convince people in real life that you know what you are talking about by repeating these scientific words over?

What is that, something you just pulled out of your ass?

What is the meaning of the universe?

Ans. It's like superstrings and that, everything is made of waves.

Your statement was void of any meaning and completely incorrect scientifically.

    You said:
This is just completely wrong! Time and energy are completely independent physical properties. They relate to each other only through the physical laws of the universe, as governed by quantum mechanics and relativity, et al. They are measured in completely separate fundamental units, namely the second and the Joule.

    Time is NOT energy.

Yes. I have an honours degree in physics.

    Thanks for the crash course.

But what you said before about time being energy. That's still complete nonsense ;)

Please elaborate as I don't really understand string theory at all.

Time and movement are still to completely different things. Space and time (or dimensions according to the theory of general relativity) are the template upon which movement is understood. They are not the same thing.

fuck time. it only tells us we get older and closer to death.

i wish i was born into this world without the knowledge of time so we all didnt have an age, we just live life as it comes. and you wouldnt know "oh shit im 70, i guess im goin to die soon."
