Well, thousand year egg wasn't meant to be eaten by itself. It would taste terrible if you ate it that way-it's way too salty. You're supposed to take small pieces of it and mix it with other food, like the porridge I was talking about. Then it's really good.
so much of what you all have listed is regular food in many areas. Like, here, in my province, my family eats Deer Sausage a couple times a month... and people I know regularly eat bear, moose, elk and other animals. Bear is kinda gamey.. i don't like it. Moose, deer and elk just taste a lot like beef. A lot of the other stuff, like pigeon, octopus and other seafood (a lot of it raw) is very common in parts of Asia. I guess by these standards, I am a culinary freak. The weirdest thing I ever ate would have to be Balut. It's filipino.... and is totally disgusting. Involves an incubated duck egg and the partially formed baby duck inside. blech! I also ate dog a couple times, but that was not on purpose... that was "trick the white girl" and then laugh as she vomits.
baked rabbit, grilled beaver, fried hog testicles....(it was a wild game feast). but i was NOT aware of the hog testicles until after they were already swollowed. my father just told me to try it. i did and he asked what i thought..."its really gamey...'' i say. 'well i would imagine pig balls would be gamey.." was my fathers reaction. and mine to that was 'well, alright.' and went along my merry way. the beaver was pretty good...still kind of a gamey taste, but the grilling of it with this barbeque rub stuff on it was soooo good! im definately not a vegetarian, but i dont eat pork products...so i wasnt thrilled about the hog balls...but what are ytou going to do? i make it a plan to try everything once...food wise that is. so i will try it, i may not like it, but at least i can say i have tried it. ya know?
wow, after hearing some of those, escargot doesn't seem that weird. I'm obviously squemish cause I couldn't even get that down without a ton of bread. I guess i'd never make it on fear factor
Well I once ate kitty litter. I'm not sure if thats the weirdest but definitely the most disgusting. As for weird...it'd have to be the time I poured mountain dew into lucky charms since we had no milk. Tasty
