^^ true dat. yellow journalism first became apparent during the Spanish-American War. Use of media to influence public opinion has run rampant ever since. Villains like Saddam and Osama are so hated because media subconsciously tells you to hate them.
a soldier is a uniformed drone that invades a foreign land, to put down resistance and strike fear into the "enemy" hearts, and is the media's darling.
I agree... That a country's arms forces can manipulate the media and public opinion better than a bunch of people with their own battles to fight is what leads us to make threads like this.. We're barely allowed to know what so-called terrorists are fighting for..
indeed. it's quite simple...terrorists want to send a message: "we want the capitalist empire out of our holy land" most people don't stop to think about it; all they see on TV are these crazy people blow themselves up in market squares, and think "wow...those terrorists are evil." and perhaps they are, but no one ever questions why they do what they do. what really gets my goat, is the lack of information the public has about the specifics of why we're at "war", and I say "war" because this isn't even a real war...this is just a strong-armed means to executing an underlying agenda. the "war against terrorism" is a just catch phrase, like the "war on drugs", but it's very misleading and illusory...some other motives are at work, namely greed.
Until you realise that against the might of America's armed forces and a media that hates them, they really have vry few other options.
that's true; they should all migrate to Iran, and join the standoff. then it would really get interesting
If I recall correctly, members of Al Quada were once called Freedom Fighters by the US (and were funded). Oh yes, that is in the late 80's, when Afghanistan was fighting the Soviets. Funny how the name changes once they change targets? When it's an enemy of the US, then they're freedom fighters. When it's the US or an ally, they're terrorists. Kinda makes me think the US is believes in the phrase "an enemy of my enemy is my friend." Too bad that's not necessarily true... Peace & Love
I think the same applies here in america a person who would fight to preserve his own liberties was once considered "patriotic"...now, he's a "terrorist".
