lets not talk about the past and focus on the future instead isnt Lithium the guy who makes short films?...we need to see some bonking
FYI: The Randomness forum got combined with the main UK forum, which was also full of random postings. No need for two forums doing the same thing. All the other UK forums that got removed were pretty much dead from inactivity, and were duplicates of forums we already have on HF like books. And even with fewer forums you brits are having a hard time keeping them alive. What I think happened (a long time ago), was simply that we had a lot of school age posters who finally graduated and got involved with College or work and had little time to post here anymore. Peace-Phoenix was the perfect example... He got so busy he stopped moderating the forum, and that's when things went downhill for the UK forum. It's never been the same since then.
hey...what the hell is skip posting here for?...this section is for UK-ians ONLY !!!!!! (and members of subsidiary countries)
Indeed, and of people being interested in what's going on and each other, disagreeing, finding things funny, contributing in a variety of ways, all of that. We've actually always had a really good mix of ages and people here over the years, old and young, with various outlooks and attitudes, and that has often led to a real and diverse sense of community specific to the UK forum. No one person has or could have been the centre of that. A lack of interesting posts is what makes a forum go into this kind of lull, nothing more nor less than that. People come and go, but we've also had a few instances where people have been put off or driven off because of some regrettable storms in teacups. Peace_phoenix barely moderated the forum, which was one of the things that always made it so great. We've always had a hands off approach, and let people say whatever they want as far as possible... problems have occurred when community members have felt unable to express themselves. A forum community requires a mix of people who are interested in what others have to say. If you want a more popular forum you make it an interesting place to read and post in by being interesting yourself, and engaging with others. If the forum's going through a lull it's because people here aren't writing interesting things that would make people want to stick around to read them.
welll why was music kept as that's a duplicate too? anyway it doesn't really matter as the forum would probably be quiet regardless. i was just wondering why they were taken away that's all. the ones that are remaining just seem like an odd choice to stay. we're sorry we're boring *hangs head* i found this sketch so funny as kid. i would laugh for about 5 minutes, haha. love it
Heh, well I count everyone in that, myself included, I've not had as much time recently to post threads or get involved in discussions as much as I'd like to. There have been times when there have barely been any new threads for weeks, or the only new posts have been "anyone in Grimsby" or "who likes drugs lol" type threads. And the perennial "this forum is dead" threads of course. That's everyone's fault. I really don't think the new structure works. At the very least we need a randomness forum for our unique breed of humour and banter, keeping the main section for more serious political topics. Unfortunately when the subforums were deleted, all threads were merged into the main section, so that "say you were forced to tongue an anus", political discussions and random comedy threads are now all lumped into one section, making it less than clear nowadays what this forum is for.
yeh it's kind of a shame because some of the serious threads can get off track if everythings lumped in together. we need some order up in here. i kind of feel like because the forum is inactive it might discourage people from posting new threads at all, and go and look elsewhere on the forums for a subforum to post something in instead of the UK forum as it will more likely generate responses elsewhere. i don't know. just seems a shame, as i was going to start a thread about the news of the world scandel but not sure i can think of anything to say expect.....what a scandel and hooray it's been shut down.
Just before the incest thing (best forgotton) the Uk randomness forum was going really well. I miss it. I wasn't quite sure where to put my usual inane banter in UK after that so went to general forums. We used to have a laugh here, did we not?
