Yeah, those two billion people in Asia and latin America would have done fine without food. And guns? Guns equalized the worlds power. Some of you hippies seem to look to the past as being some grand happy harmony sort of shit. It wasn't. The past was a bloody, disease filled squallers struggle for survival, I wouldn't uninvent anything. The future is our savior.
Do you want me to list a few wars with million plus casualties before gunpowder was used in battle? Xin dynasty rebellions, Mongollian conquests, greco-turkish wars, Roman conquests, Aryan invasions of India. You don't know much about war if you don't think it's not 'up close and personal.' People see their freinds get blown apart. In Iraq, most operations are counterinsurgent, which means they go inside apartments. When you shoot someone from twenty feet away, they're blood still ends up all over you. War is a dirty busniess, but guns are just a slightly more convinent way of waging it. Much of the Congolese civil wars in the late 90's in which millions we're killed by hatchets and machetes.
Yeah, but in modern times, a war like that would be impossible to get popular support for unless it was defensive.
You didn't read the last part. popular support doesn't really matter if people are being killed with machetes.
That's a rare example. Congo isn't a developed country. It would be pretty tough to pull off here or in western Europe.
