He had a different political stance to the Tsar of the time who sentenced him to death because of it. I am interested to know if the pro-death penalty people really think this was a reasonable sentence and that it was a crime? Also, what crimes warrant the death penalty specifically?
Great point. "An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind" - Ghandi Right or wrong, revenge causes more pain for all involved. Why make death a punishment - we all die. The only ones who are punished are those who are attached to the one who is executed.
In theory...yes, yes, yes...until it is one of your own beloved...well,at least mine.... is what I wonder about....
Out of everything I said, why should I not be surprised that you would hone in on something I didn't say, and throw in something "special" regarding my belief in God... "What happens later" you say...Why later? What if it is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, with DNA, eye-witness accounts and everything scientific you can come up with that a person beloved to me, in my family, had been murdered by someone. I feel "later" is irrelevant, especially since we are talking hypothetically about a definitely guiltly person. I am human and I would personally want the criminal to get what they deserve ASAP. simple as that. There are Hannibal Lectors that are proud of their crimes. Holocost criminals I compare to Hannibal. In my opinion, it is that type of person of whom I speak that need extermination, since you seem confused about that.
So someone rapes a child and is killed for it. The child grows up with the same issues they would have had if the rapist was alive but rotting in prison instead. Their trust and innocence has been taken. They are traumatized and likely to have sexual issues for the rest of their lives. Worst case scenario - they can learn these habits as a victim and become an abuser themselves. None of this changed by that rapist being dead. Child abusers have a HARD time in prison. If I wanted closure I would be happier knowing that they were getting the shit kicked out of them in prison, than knowing they were the quiet dead. Second scenario - murder not for self defense reasons. All murder? Gang related? Drug related? What about women who kill their partners as victims of domestic violence? There was a case of two women killing their schizophrenic father in the UK as a result of him repeatedly raping them since they were children. Should all of them die? The person who administers the death penalty is therefore a murderer too. What happens to them? Does someone else get to kill them?
Not interested in your belief in God I was just repeating what you said. :sunny: You haven't answered by question about what would happen if they are later proved innocent. Adding in a rebuttal that you always 'hypothetically' meant someone who was guilty without a shadow of doubt does not answer that question. IMO the word 'extermination' when used by anyone to talk about the death of another human being says a lot about that person. There are some bad people in this world who have done some terrible things. IMO, simply killing them in retaliation isn't going to do a lot for healing the families of the victim. I would prefer the criminal to rot in prison.
If a person is found guilty in the court of law then why would a juror face the death penalty? Or maybe you are saying that everyone in the court should meet their god if that person is later found innocent. While we are at it kill the entire millitary and government because innocent people were killed in some of those bombings in iraq.
You are right. No one knows what they will do in any circumstance. I just hope I never get put in that position.
I was asking as I am interested in how a pro-death penalty person would answer. So I am not saying anything, just asking that question. Some people just might say 'yes' to your second point.
You're asking me to dig up every single bio of every death row inmate? Seriously? Sounds to me like you have incredible amounts of faith in the justice system. I got a life that isn't worth wasting on finding every single instance when an innocent person was raped ass backwards by the law. But I'll start you off on this famous case in history: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacco_and_Vanzetti Also you can check out the WM3. Luckily they got spared despite having their lives ruined.
The whole execution system is in need of reform. For instance in China, after u get sentenced to death, they actually execute you in an ambulance in the car park (true btw!). OK its convenient, but supposing you'd called for an ambulance for yourself because u felt a bit dizzy. And you got in the wrong one? In England, if you were executed this way, you'd probably have to wait 30 yrs for an ambulance. So you wouldn't need to bother appealing the sentence. Trouble with executions is that no one ever gets to see them. I mean why not have hangings or electric chair fryings live on kids TV? Or half time at the football? I prefer the idea they had in The Running Man, where those sentenced to death are hunted. Effective AND entertaining. Much better.
first part...even if you dug up every single death row inmate, do you really think you would find an innocent one? they are there because they were proven guilty by the information given. second part...i dont think they are on death row any longer. aka I dont think they are on death row right now.
In the case of capital crime to any society insisting on punitive remedy. Brand the convicted so you can see them coming and shun them rather than lock them up. To jail persons as a society means that we imprison ourselves. We benefit from withdrawing human support from those things which we find detrimental to human well being. Flight is less damaging than fight. In the same turn if society at large does not divest itself of it's own meanness, some will always refine it to horrific proportions.
As usual I'm on the same page with orison. I'd rather see restitution than punishment, which is costly. I think convicts should work to repay their victims or their victim's family within prison. But, of course, the nature of government is inefficiency and it is no different with the death penalty. I'd have no problem with the death penalty as long as it was privately administered.
even as a young kid when arguing the death penalty and hearing someone say "but what if he is innocent" my thought even back then was yeah so if there is no death penalty what if he is innocent? instead this man wrongly convicted of raping and murdering a child gets to get raped and tortured by other inmates. and gets no help from guards because they like to see what they think is a deviant get their just desert. what if jeffery dahmer was innocent, and now how will he get justice? all i am saying is the system we have is quite flawed but it is a bit better than letting people that are liable to stab you for no good reason wander the streets...(even if they are marked like one person thought was a good idea, if i see someone marked as an attempted murderer walking toward me after i tell him to step back. im swinging a bat first and telling the cops later whatever it takes to get me out of charges.
