It's unnecessary. And it can be a bit stressful for mama, every time doctor pauses and goes, "hmmmmmm!" she can think something is wrong. It's really not telling you any information you don't already know. Is baby growing? Well, your belly's growing, right? Is baby doing okay? You feel baby move, right?

And even though u/s sound seems to be safe, they really haven't been around long enough to prove it, especially when it comes to repeated scanning and prolonged scans.
i think they can be a wonderful tool, but they can be abused and misused, too. And until they can prove that they are 100% safe and harmless, I don't recommend more than one scan during the pregnancy, and only if I suspect something needs following up do I recommend another.

It is gross. The taste is terrible and you have oily poops but it put me into labor.

It's an old midwifery trick. If you go over your due date and pitocen sounds unsavory...try the castor oil..drink it with orange juice.

Worst case scenerio...you have some oily diarrhea.

well SHIT. what kind of problems do you think it could cause? in the beginning my boyfriend was kinda of suspicious of the ultrasound every time, but neither of us knew very much about it. I kind of think they could be harmful in the same way computer screens and tvs can be.

My OB wanted to schedual an induction once Leane was one week over due, 41 weeks. I knew about the 2-week rule, but he insisted.
When I went in for my next appointment the next week (which was the day that we were going to determine if we were going to induce me the next day or the day after that, depending on if anything had happened), and had been having contractions all morning. He still schedualed the induction for two days later....but by midnight we went to the hospital.....I was still pretty irregular, and by morning, the just hooked me up to the drip without telling me, which threw me into hard labour fast. i was getting 77 mm/hr, which had been upped from 22mm/hr in one hour! It sucked!
I'm never using pitocin again! Or that doctor!
But yeah, babes will come in his/her own time. Can't stay in there forever, (even though you actually start thinking that when your this pregnant! lol)
    What kind of bfing problems?????

They hooked you up to pitocen without your consent? That's shitty.

With my second baby, I made a strict birthing plan. No needles unless absolutely necessary, no pitocen unless the baby is in danger(low fluid levels..ect) and I wanted limited monitoring. I refused to be strapped down to the bed with monitors and IVs. I got up to go to the bathroom whenever I felt the urge too and no one dared stop me.

Birthing mothers have alot more power now then they used to.

yeah, I was pretty unhappy. I'd been having contractions since 6am the morning before, and was about 5 cm when they hooked it up, and Leane was doing just fine. There was NO need for it, what so ever! The nurse actually said that I was taking to long and that they needed my room.
Definately avoiding the hospital at all costs next time!

That is really horrible! I feel so sorry for you. and pissed off at hospitals...I wish I could avoid going to one. I wanted to have a homebirth, but I didn't have enough money to pay a midwife...

They should...I'm on medicaid in Washington and it's paid for...Let me do some research...if it could be paid for, you could still transfer care. ;)

Where in Idaho? I'll try to find you a list of midwives, because I'm seeing no evidence that medicaid WONT pay for a homebirth...:D

I live in SC where everything sucks-and Medicaid pays for midwives here, too.

I think her problem is lack of transport...but being as she's so far along...maybe she could have them come to her...*shrugs*

I think my best option would be to go to the hospital and have a midwife there with me. My grandparents are old and kinda sickly and I don't think they could handle the stress of having a birthing in their home. I don't even think they would support it at all...

midwives aren't paid for here, with the exception of one health region where a doctor thought that it was stupid and funds them himself in a birthing center. (i live in alberta canada BTW)....that is the health region that i live in, but i didn't know about it when i was pregnant and moved to the town we're in...so i opted to go to the city(where they're not allowed to practice).....but in the rest of alberta, there's only 2 other health regions, out of about 12 where they're even legal, and there's only 3 provinces that legally allow midwives!

all i can say, is make a birth plan if you haven't already (the hospital i was at wouldn't allow them, either) and stress that it be followed! :)
