    Hello,

I don't smoke and I reduced boozing to nearly nothing for a few years now. But that isn't a guarantee to not get tongue or lung cancer. It's all about probabilities I guess. The caffeine, well, there are studies about everything. Depending on what study you trust caffeine helps preventing liver cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Or it brings you a plethora of health problems.

I wasn't seriously ill for over a decade now, I haven't had a flu for I think over two years now. So I must doing something right I guess ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

I've put on about a stone in the last 6 months - one year.
I have been feeling a little sluggish recently.
I've also got a nagging/dull pain in my right arm.

So, perhaps you should be more concerned about me than I am of you?

In all seriousness, apart from the weight, I think I'm in reasonable condition.
I do get lethargic from time to time - but I think that might just be my diet.

I do drink a little too much, but don't smoke an awful lot (although I have been smoking twenty years).
I do want to switch to e-cigarettes, but have not made the leap yet.

Yeah, it does feel like somebody somewhere has produced a study that suggests certain foods either kills you or cures.

It's a misconception that fat is bad for you and makes you fat. This is not really true. Sure, there are certain fats one should avoid, for instance trans fats, but what really makes people fat is sugar and starchy carbs like bread, white flour and white rice. I would advise someone trying to lose weight to avoid grains as well.

I have plenty of fat in my diet. It's not an issue with me. In fact, I eat pure fat in the form of coconut oil multiple times a day. It speeds your metabolism and helps you lose weight.

I ended up getting chinese. Then getting drunk and baked with a friend. So zaxby's will have to be another time.

Damn, so how did you eat and stuff?? Get that other one off and then stay out of the system bro! Fuck that's a tough break but I'm sure it will get better for you soon. Have you ever thought about getting into fixing cars? It's hard work but steady, and I have a feeling you would like it.

That's pretty interesting, Rat, because I have people that work out heard saying more than once that bread doesn't do it for them where it comes to building up weight. I know they swear by grain based stuff like spaghetti and other pasta's though but not bread it seems. Also, I admit I have a diet largely based on grains myself. Bread, rice, pancakes etc. but I'm not fat myself either. I am (slowly) getting the urge to change my diet a bit as well so I am certainly intrigued what other people have to say about bread/grain based diets! :)

I am not saying that eating breads, grains, pasta, etc. is going to make everyone fat. Some people can eat just about anything and not get fat. However, these sorts of carbs spike the blood sugar and create an insulin response, which means fat is being stored. When you eat healthy fats in the form of nuts, coconut oil, fish, grass-fed beef, etc., your body immediately uses this as fuel, giving you energy.

So basically what I was trying to say is that if someone is trying to lose weight, they should really watch their consumption of breads, pasta, potatoes, white rice, and other starchy foods that have a high glycemic response.

So if a person doesn't have a weight issue but he eats bread mainly for breakfast and lunch every day what would you recommend in regard to a healthy change?

    So far it's been...

A tin of sardines packed in extra virgin olive oil
    3 raw cage-free organic eggs
    raw organic almonds
    blackberries

After I finish my pushups, I am going to make a protein shake with grass-fed whey protein powder, chia seed, flax seed, green superfood powder (chocolate flavored) and a banana.

For dinner I am going over to my parents' house and we're having a roast. I'm not sure what we will be having with it.

A balanced diet. Unless there is no harm in having a mainly bread based diet every day when weight isn't an issue?

    Hello,

I sometimes feel pain in my upper arms. I can't pinpoint the centre of the pain and it's not too strong. Just strong enough to be annoying. For me it's usually a sign that I sat too long at my desk and that I worked too many weeks without going out in the woods. After a few longer hikes I usually recover.

    Regards
    Gyro

    Hello,

I'm aware that there are 'good' fats and 'bad' fats, even if I don't know the details ;).

Learned something new here. I didn't knew before that white rice and bread is helping to get people fat.

I have the feeling it speeds up not only your metabolism, but I might be wrong ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

PS: Having two kebab in front of me ;)
PPS: Update, only one kebab left ;)

To answer this thread I ate a ham sandwhich with mayonaise and a little fresh spinach and a glass of grape soda. However , yesterday I bought BBQ from the Baptist church for me and my family. It was good.

Me, personally... I would replace bread with seeds (chia, flax, sunflower, hemp), nuts (almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts) and beans, as they are lower on the glycemic index while also providing a good source of fiber.

You are right about the grains and other starchy foods, but you are somewhat wrong about fats and fuel. Our main fuel should be from simple sugar carbs (such as fruit).

Obviously we still need some fat, but too much is not good and oils are not healthy. They're 100% fat, a whole food is always preferable, since it gives you other nutrients as well, other than fat.
