Cholestrol is not a bad thing indeed, but when it is too high it is not a good thing either. Don't know why Rat doesn't specify that?

Inflammation is what causes heart disease first and foremost. High cholesterol (LDL or otherwise) in an otherwise healthy person is a non-issue. The belief that too much cholesterol in the blood automatically clings to artery walls without other factors playing into it is a fallacy. Cholesterol only accumulates on the walls of damaged, inflamed arteries. This is often caused by excessive sugar consumption, yet most people don't even think of sugar as playing a role in heart disease because the drug companies have got them thinking that fat and cholesterol are the bogeymen. Why? Because it sells drugs.

Seems plausible (how do we know for sure though), but wouldn't rule out that high cholestrol isn't a complete non-issue either! Thanks for elaborating though! :)

By all means take your doctor's advice over mine. I am not telling you to follow my advice, I am simply stating my opinion. Just remember that the majority of doctors know next to nothing about health and proper nutrition, since little is taught to them in college about it. They adhere to what was taught to them by their drug company funded curriculum. Doctors are trained to prescribe drugs -- not cure or treat anything, and certainly not make people healthy.

I don't think oatmeal is the worst thing a person could eat for breakfast, but I don't think it's the best (or even one of the best), either. Oatmeal causes the blood sugar to spike then crash, leaving a person feeling tired and hungry again later. When it comes to grains, oats are better than wheat, but worse than rice.

I must also say that this blood sugar spike caused by grains may appear but they do not leave every person more tired and hungry after a few hours than if they would eat a different breakfast. Or so it seems to me. I often see this consequence put forth by PR but here in the netherlands fueling yourself up in the morning with sandwiches has been THE way for decades. If they start with yoghurt drinks, cruesli, fruit or whatever it doesn't make them less hungry at lunch at all... Just sharing my thoughts! ;)

Maybe, but there is a lot of new information out there regarding nutrition and I wouldn't count on all doctors to keep up, especially older doctors.

I don't really think oatmeal is that bad, but its probably not the greatest. Pressed rat's diet is probably more nutritious than anyone else here but I also appreciate food for its taste too much to give up some of my favorites just for the sake of nutrition. I won't be switching to eating raw eggs anytime soon.

I have started drinking bulletproof coffee and its amazing. It gives me energy for hours. If you only take one piece of advice from pressed rat, take the bit about bulletproof coffee.
