three pieces of toast, fried in a pan with herb butter, because I don't have a functioning toaster, with two scrambled eggs, cheddar grated on top. "served" with milk and a few carrots. Not sure it quite counts as cooking - but it's grub. About to make 4 shots esspresso - my normal morning, noon, and not-quite-night dose.
Poutine is always in season! It sucks that phytic acid had to be found in the most nutritious brown rice but not in the white rice.
Well, it became salsa time, the tomatoes were just perfect for it... and it was gone before I could find the camera. Fiery hot with jalapenos from the garden also... Fall crops are starting now, cilantro, cherry tomatoes, chard...and herbs.
Spaghetti squash and a homemade sauce made from tomatoes from my garden, as well as green pepper, mushrooms, onion, and sausage. I couldn't get the sauce to thicken so its more like a weird gumbo soup served over spaghetti squash
I'm gonna go make salmon cakes now (with salmon from salmon fillets, not from a can) with fresh parsley, dill and lemon juice--- even though I made dinner earlier. Hungry lately.
I love reading how we are all using fresh items that are now in season! I made a roast beef dinner tonight as it is cold here and a good day to have the oven going. Mashed taters, baby carrots, beets, cauliflower, mushroom gravy and yorkshire puddings. It was good!
I made pork chops tonight! They were thick as can be, about 2 inches, I couldn't believe it, never seen chops thick like that before. I baked them in the oven with some BBQ sauce, and served them with mashed potatoes, roasted kale and marinated beets. Yummy.
Lots of great meals. The only pork chops I make that don't end up dry is baked with apples sprinkled with cinnamon. It went from 33C weather to 8C here! At least no snow like in Alberta (30 cm!) Longjohn's weather. And poutine weather! That was dinner tonight, mushroom poutine. And Montreal smoked meat on kimmel bread.
Ahah that's a very Montreal-inspired supper you had Lucy, looks yummy! You can also add ground beef, hot dogs, smoked meat, chicken and peas, fried onions and bell peppers, or replace the gravy by spaghetti sauce in your poutine, those are all popular toppings. The best to me though is what they call the "deluxe poutine", that's a poutine on which they put the same ingredients than on a deluxe pizza (pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and lots of cheese on top). It's SO good! I got the munchies so I'm baking more chops and BBQ sauce, that I'll enjoy with a leftover of mashed potatoes.
You guys make me hungry!!! This morning: Coffee - Kenya AA fresh ground with Stevia and (gasp)real milk. Toke - Mystery Bud from a bubbler... Omelette - with cheddar cheese filling, topped with freshly roasted Hatch chilis and some of that salsa.
Goodness, this thread. Smh. Making me very, very hungry and now just sitting here debating what I want to make for dinner tonight... or even if I want to make something or order something... hmmm....
Oh absolutely. We were discussing this in another thread earlier this year…. do you know there is a Poutine Week in Montreal around Feb. 1? There are a slew of different types even dessert poutine with sweet syrup instead of gravy over the fries and curds. Here's a link to last the one this past February. We were laughing how they try to make some of them look healthy… fries, cheese and gravy, topped with greens! lol You might find your favourite there, kale poutine! :-D http://www.mtlblog.com/2014/01/montreal-poutine-week-2014/ I had a country omelette today, provolone cheese and black forest ham. I've only put herbs in my classic omelettes but today I tried dill, chives and tarragon in the country omelette and it was really good. I found the tarragon especially complemented the ham and cheese.
For supper tonight I made some homemade pan-fried breaded fish (sole fillets + flour and spices), with roasted small potatoes, mustard greens, marinated beets and fruit chow-chow.
I made a cabbage and egg stir fry last night. It was gross. I give up on cabbage, I've tried preparing it so many different ways and its no bueno.
lol It's not potatoes and cheese they use for the dessert poutines. It's ingredients like churros or fried dough made to look like fries with things like miniature marshmallows or chunks of white chocolate in lieu of the cheese curds. Faux poutine!
lol the only thing I had in the house was cabbage and eggs, so I googled cabbage and eggs recipe and found the stir fry recipe.
