I made "Holiday Hash". Essentially you take leftover Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Gravy and whatever else you have laying around after the holiday put it in a pan on the stove and heat it up all together while stirring and mixing it together. C/S, Rev J
i had a craving for a pork chop and fried pear so i went to the store and bought one of each then i remembered i already cooked (and ate) a knorr sidekicks noodle package with tuna added so i tossed the pork chop and pear in the fridge for tomorrow :guitarist: my memory is not the greatest lately
^^^ Again with the pear, and I still haven't bought any! Tonight I made homemade mini pizzas, with zucchini and cheese. The first time I've made that simple combo, it was really good. The pic is before I cooked it, I forgot once it was done.
We're going to do some baking with the kids next week, and Lucy, those cookies sound like what I want to start with!
I bet they'll love that. Make sure you have baking powder. I had to nix the cookies because I haven't baked any this year, I couldn't find a salt-free baking powder in Canada and I never bought more of the regular. But I can start using it again, in moderation of course, now that I have my blood pressure under control. So I baked bread instead and made more pizza dough. It's one of the dense breads, I love those, a 7-grain bread with amaranth, triticale, rye, oats, barley, wheat germ, I can't remember all the grains, ground flax, blackstrap molasses and walnuts and sunflower seeds. Perfect for slathering with liverwurst. And I made a quick garlic pasta for a late lunch. I had cooked spaghetti noodles left over in the fridge, so I sautéed garlic in olive oil, added cream and halved grape tomatoes and mushrooms with basil and tarragon and cooked it for a bit until it thickened then added the noodles to warm the lot up. I had it with a green salad with olive oil and apple cider vinegar and broke up some homemade bread for dipping in olive oil. It was a good impromptu lunch!
I bought pears! Is it better if it's soft and ripe or hard? I'll have to wait for one to ripen if so since they're green and hard at the moment. Anything special you do to it when you fry it?
There are different kinds of pears. Here you have one kind that we just call cooking pears. My parents have a pear tree like that. Those peers are round like apples and although they look light yellow as normal pears they turn red when you cook them. Many people love them in autumn here but I'm not really fond of cooked pears.
I finally made the gingerbread cookies today. No shapes, just round cookies. Nowhere near as creative as Irmi! The house smelled smelled wonderful and the cookies tasted great.I always add a bit of cardamom, one of my favourite spices, along with the more traditional spices. I wish I could bottle the smell (without chemicals) and spray it in the air whenever.
i cooked some water and added some package of flavoured chemicals to it to make swiss chalet sauce for my pre-cooked costco chicken
Oh no, I think it would be delicious. Not deep fried, more like sautéeing, to warm the slices and get a bit of a crust on them. I bet it would bring out the flavour nicely. I think I'll try it today. I'll let you know what I think.
I fried up a pear! To go with the a beef roast I made. I slice the roast beef and freeze it to use for sandwiches, since I can't have cured lunch meats (waa), but I had a few hot slices for dinner. I really like pears this way. I used a ripe pear, fried it in butter then drizzled a bit of maple syrup over it. It went really well with the meal. That's the pear on the bottom, on the top are sliced baked potatoes with oil and paprika. Coincidentally, I caught a show on TV with a pear recipe, my ears perked up when he mentioned pears. Cooked in a saffron and wine reduction and served with a dollop of a parmigiano-ricotta mixture on top. I'm going to have to try that one day too, it looked really good. Though I'll definitely be frying up more pears. I also want to try grilling them on the BBQ in the summer.
