What defines a "pedophile" to you?

Well, yea, you are 100% right. Say a 30 year old who is attracted to or dates a 16 year old is not a pedophile by definition.... nor is it the same thing logically. Pedophiles are attracted to CHILDREN... young children--- babies, toddlers, and other young kids that haven't gone through puberty yet, as you stated.

Personally I have MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more of an issue w an adult who is attracted to a CHILD- a 5 year old or something like you used as an example. Those people make me more mad than almost anything else in this world and I would not like to run into one of them (it's happened before in jail...and trust me, it's hard to not hurt the person and risk ruining getting out and back to your own family in a timely fashion!)....

Adults, say a 30 year old again, who are attracted to or date teenagers, you know, young teens often below the legal limit (in some states/areas) but who have gone through puberty. (So, I'm talking adults who are attracted to say 15 and 16 year olds.... if they were to date say a 16 year old...)-- well, I know exactly how I feel about it. One of my very, very best friends forever (still) is my age (33) and when he was about 30 he did start dating a 16 year old. The way I felt about it was weird....because I did not find that he was necessarily doing anything MORALLY wrong.... considering esp. that this particular 16 year old was living on her own for a while and emotionally and mentally pretty darn mature for not just her age, but even compared to many older people. So I didn't think "pedophile!!!" or stop being his friend or anything. But I did question why an adult (30 years) with kids of his own, who are now teenagers themselves, would even be INTERESTED in seriously dating/being in a relationship w someone that age....someone who was still in high school. Just the---- what do you have in common in different life areas... those two age groups are not typically going through the same things. Me as a 33 year old would just not feel that I would have that deep of a connection to want to even consider being in a relationship w someone who is still in high school. I've been on my own and doing adult things for over 15 years now. So, yea... it just makes me wonder what the people would truly have in common. But I do not think it's morally wrong like someone who is attracted to prepubescent children---pedophiles.

Well, no ... I really haven't. I'm not sure why pedophilia tends to exclude the vast majority of people on the planet today, in order to focus on religious icons, such as Mary and Joseph or Muhammad and Aisha.

Do I think the Blessed Virgin is a victim of a pedophile, or rape? No, I don't.

That's the alternate version of the question you posed, which, to be honest with you, I think does a great disservice to the topic being discussed. Unless, of course, what a pedophile is, to you, is Joseph of the Bible. If that's your answer, fine. But it isn't my answer. I don't think Joseph is a pedophile and I think honing in on religious icons is, to be blunt: fucking stupid. From what I've read, pedophilia is a HUGE problem in England. How many Mary's and Joseph's and Christs do you all have over there, anyway?

I think your first comment reflected on the point that you think paedophilia is quite clear cut.

I mentioned an e.g where a child is pregnant. And as has been pointed out, subsequently impregnated while a child by an adult.

Some people might see that as paedophilia. Some might not.

The fact you are arguing otherwise seems to be the point of this thread.

A. Seriously, don't get so uptight any time something Christian is mentioned.
B. It isn't really a HUGE problem.

 

I haven't exactly "argued" but I did make a distinction between a child and a teenager. For YOU, Joseph and the Blessed Virgin are your go-to for the discussion of pedophilia. But that's not at all the first thing that comes to MY mind when discussing pedophilia.

A. Don't box me in YOUR "Christian" framework. You're the one dragging religion into it, not me.

B. I forgot, you're a nit-picker. So fine, I'll drop the quantifier. From what I read, pedophilia is a problem in England (but maybe not a problem for an English gentleman, like yourself).
