well, I did valium a couple times last week, and took a couple milligrams of xanax the night before (but not too late). I tripped on saturday and I definitely tripped balls.

    according to wikipedia:

    half life for diazepam:
20–100 hours (36–200 hours for main active metabolite desmethyldiazepam) .. this makes it seem as if a single dose of valium could last up to a week. I've never felt it last anything close to that.

    half life for alprazolam:
    Immediate release: 11.2 hours

    etizolam is just 6.2 hours.

now when I take a valium I don't feel it for days, and when I take some xanax, I don't feel barred out for 12 hours, more like half that, but there are residual effects and sometimes if take a heavy dose right before bed I'll feel some residual effects (mostly lack of anxiety) when I wake up.

apparently "half-life" means that after that amount of time, the serum levels are half of the maximum levels from that dose, and then exponentially get smaller (half something again and again the numbers get small pretty quickly). But I don't really know how relevant these numbers are.

I would say as long as you don't take benzos the same day you trip and there's been enough time for the benzo to pretty much wear off you should trip fine. I also wouldn't recommend tripping if you're experiencing benzo withdrawal though, that could lead to a bad trip. If you take a benzo during your trip you'll just feel barred out with some visuals.

btw, according to wikipedia the half life of lsd is just 3-5 hours.

I saw a solitary source for clonazolam at 14-18 hours half-life but I'm pretty much near baseline , So I won't be too concerned about it.

    Thanks for the info!

Benzos can come in handy in the case of a bad trip, as I'm sure you know. Never really had a truly bad trip on LSD though, except for one memorable time I took a strip and one of my friends caused me to bug out (panic attack) due to his behavior (set and setting); another person had a prescription for ativan and I gulped down 5 or 6 of them and was panic free, however rainbows were still shooting out from the television screen, though mentally I wasn't "tripping".

Some other psyches though, I'm lookin' at you nbome ... I've had a truly bad trip on (dose too high, also not ideal set and setting either, but I think the dose was more to blame, or maybe just the chem). Wouldn't call it a train wreck because nothing truly horrible resulted from it but I feared death, or grand mal seizure (had bad tremors and could barely walk without falling due to the tremors, couldn't see at all to navigate either), so took an antipsychotic (ripseridone) which was all that was on hand. antipsychotics are nasty drugs, but they will kill all of the effects of psyches, mental and visual. However, unlike benzos, risperidone (and probably other antipsychotics/neuroleptics of that class) took about an hour to kick in ... and when your are balls deep in a bad trip and fearing death .... a whole lot can happen in a couple minutes, let alone a whole hour (is it starting to taper down, or have I not even peaked yet !!!)! So I just laid the fuck down and hoped for the best trying to stay as calm and still as possible, but I could feel my neurons firing in ways that I felt if they continued to do so would cause a seizure, which luckily did not happen, but apparently it's not unheard of with nbome chems.

I can usually keep my cool on LSD though, even if some less than ideal events get thrown in ... now someone intentionally fucking with me continuously on a high dose; that's not a very nice thing to do.

    4mg alpraz

I'd like to note that I enjoy the effects of benzos much better during the daytime .. however they are useful for calming myself in preparation for sleep at night but for some reason feel less effective, or weaker at night.

The day after my trip I took 3 hits of Clonazolam and what ensued for the next 2 1/2 days was horrible. I had insomnia, amnesia, hallucinations and like needed the stuff just to relax which then start the cycle again. I also used some weed, which calmed me down but also made me more spaced. that whole time was pretty much as bad as my worst stimulant experiences like MDPV. Is this a common reaction for high dose benzos or did I have a paradoxical reaction ?

It kind of sounds like withdrawal symptoms. Clonazolam is extremely potent. You may have done too much.

Here are the adverse effects of alprazolam; I chose alprazolam because there is the most information available, and it is a 1,4-triazolobenzodiazepine as is clonaolam (and most benzo's that end in "-lam"), I assume many of these will apply to benzos in general, and specifically the 1,4-triazolobenzodiazepines:

    Adverse effects
Allergic reactions are unlikely to occur. The only common side effect is sleepiness when treatment is initiated.
    Possible side effects include:
    Paradoxical reactions

    Side effects from alprazolam

Although unusual, the following paradoxical reactions have been shown to occur:

I've never really experienced hallucinations on benzos, except maybe this one time I had some trippy effects from a large dose of lorazepam (but I had tripped recently, it could have been that, but this was of a different nature). I do find benzos to have a subtle trippiness about them though sometimes, probably something to do with the effects on memory, but the non-benzodiazepines (zolpidem, etc) which are largely similar to benzos except for chemical structure do produce proper hallucinatory effects at doses of 20-30+mg (this is for zolpidem). I have had what you might call *delusions* when experiencing intense acute withdrawal syndrome from long term high dose abuse (and have also suffered a grand mal seizure during same withdrawal period, I learned all my lessons about drugs the hard way).

The amnesia sounds like a pretty common effect of benzos at higher dosages (even small doses can cause memory impairment, forgetting where you put your keys and such things). The insomnia, and the anxiety I think you mean when you say "like needed the stuff just to relax which then start the cycle again" sounds like it could be withdrawal, or just return of original symptoms which can sometimes be confused with withdrawal. You get used to being calm and relaxed and without it you notice this. This isn't always withdrawal, it usually takes weeks or months or use at higher doses to cause really bad withdrawal symptoms, but some benzos do build tolerance quicker, which also means withdrawal, since withdrawal is related to your tolerance to the drug.

The 1,4-triazolo-benzodiazepines are fast to take effect and relatively short acting, compared to e.g. diazepam which takes effect slower, but lasts longer and the effects wear away slower so it is more "self-tapering" in a sense (think of crack vs powder cocaine ... both comedowns suck but if you've ever done both you would know which one is worse).

I think the first time I tried clonazolam I don't remember a damn thing, apparently fell asleep in the middle of the floor before finally going to bed, which I don't remember. A couple milligrams will put most kiddies to sleep that don't have tolerance to benzos, and I'm not sure how fast the tolerance rises or how bad the withdrawals are.

I'd suggest to play it safe on your doses, just to avoid tolerance and dependence issues. Keep an eye on how much you are dosing and if you notice the amount significantly increasing then you should try to taper down a bit. IME it has pretty strong hypnotic effects, so I don't think the risk of a "train wreck" from overdosing is too high compared to some benzos, such as the phenazepam. Clonazolam will make you pass out if you take too much, whereas phenazepam you'll just keep redosing, overdosing to the extreme but still awake to wreak havok, go out and do some dumb shit and not remember anything later.

I try to take breaks, which means I try to let myself run out occasionally so that I have to wait a few days before getting more which helps with the tolerance because once you're tolerance reaches a certain level it's sort of set in stone and pretty hard to reduce and still be functionable. I worry about my benzo use, I know I use too high doses some times but sometimes I seriously need it, but I try not to take high doses too often. If I feel like I can get by without taking it I'll try, but really I take them because I need that shit just to help me barely make it through the stress of fucking life.

In an interview type situation, or anything like that you can bet that I'm going to perform far better and leave the person with a much better perception of myself if I'm on a benzo, vs being "sober". It just can't be too high of a dose. The right dose of benzos just make me appear more normal and open than when I'm sober, and be able to answer difficult questions honestly that may have no really good answer for far better and not seem like I'm hiding something.

I have a terrible sleep disorder as well, and not much any doctor has prescribed has been that effective (including benzos of various types, I was once prescribed 2mg name brand klonopin). I basically have no control over what time I go to sleep at night, so the people that just say "go to bed at the same time every night and you won't have this problem" can go fuck themselves because they have no clue what it's like to have non-24-hour-sleep-wake-disorder. This is neurological, AFAIK, not psychological which is why drugs aren't all that effective. It could be DSPS that I have, the sleep specialists say it could be either one and it's hard to tell really because they are so similar that they are almost the same thing. The only thing I have some control over is the time I wake up, which sometimes takes a ton of caffeine (modafinil is wonderful, but a bit expensive) which causes anxiety, tachycardia and hyperventilation on occasion, which makes my face feel tingly which just makes me more anxious. So basically, the only way to maintain a schedule is to wake up at the same time every day for me, but that has no bearing on what time I'll go to sleep meaning that I am often pretty sleep deprived which is the only thing that can help me go to bed earlier. Last night I went to bed at 8pm, woke up at 1AM .. so 5 hours of sleep. And I took more xanax to try to get back to sleep so I could wake up at maybe 5 ot 6am but my body wouldn't allow it. A good 10mgs of alprazolam can do a pretty good job at helping me go to sleep sometimes, but I know I can't do it too often because it's not sustainable. And sometimes there are nights where 100mgs (50 bars) probably wouldn't put me down, despite being sleep deprived and tired as fuck. The docs are reluctant to prescribe anything but puny doses of benzos, and like to hand out nasty ass drugs that aren't effective in putting me to sleep but make it a hellish experience getting out of bed the next day and making it through the day, so out of everything I've tried, benzos are still the most effective thing for my particular "insomnia" issues, but only on certain days. Anyone that says I just need more discipline and just "go to bed" as if I actually have a choice can go fuck themselves...I CAN'T go to bed. I can go lay in bed for 6 or 7 hours until the sun comes up sure but that's not sleeping.

If you ever look at a long line of cars in a turn lane with their turn signals blinking ... you'll notice that they will drift in and out of phase with each other. Occasionally they will be blinking in sync, but will drift apart eventually and then back into sync because the rate at which the turn signals blink on the different cars vary just slightly. That's kinda what my circadian rhythm is doing ... it's not in sync with the 24 hour day, it's a little bit longer and the days seem "too short" to me (my brain really).

That's no good regarding your sleep disorder, hopefully you'll eventually find some relief.

When I finally fell asleep after the "bender" it was pretty amazing. Another thing I will note is I've heard benzos can cause seizures and I can definitely see that happening. I get some natural spasms (had them since before using any drugs) and I was getting them more intensely on the clonazolam. The hallucinations were kind of like dissociatives, so maybe the weed contributed some but I doubt the Al-lad did.

I will go easy on the clonazolam and I don't really desire to explore these chems much further. As this experience is pretty much representative sample of higher doses of this class of drugs, It is pretty crazy to me how high of doses some of you take and can maintain. I kind of like the lower dose effects though for relaxation, even that seems to slightly slow my speech though so I don't know if I could use them for an interview and what not but I could see the anxiolytic effects having practical applications.

benzos are typically anticonvulsants, i believe it's the withdrawal that can cause seizures because you build a tolerance to the anticonvulsant effects which lowers your seizure threshold. I have had a few grand mal seizures before, I could be predisposed to epilepsy or something but I've never had a seizure when drugs weren't involved so it's probably the drugs that were the cause.

Maybe try diclazepam or etizolam. Etizolam is pretty nice, but it's kinda fiendish.

I don't really desire to explore to many of these chems, but I'll keep that in mind.

6mg etizolam + 10mg alprazolam + 15mg valium (3x5mg) ... effects are noticeable but not where I want to be. Tolerance is a bitch
