The Painted Bird by Jerry Rosinski.
I'm not very far into it, but so far it's incredibly good. It's from a boy in the Holocaust. I hear it turns out very depressing, but one of those books you just have to read.

I love that book! Although I think Shogun will always be my favorite of his books.

Anyway, I just finished reading "Mistress of Spices" by Chitra Banarjee Divakaruni which is one of my favorite books.

Awesome! I will definitely be checking that out. I know it can't be as magical as the book, but it could still be really good.

These days I'm scanning thru Emanuel Swedenborgs Heaven and Hell. A man who spent part of his life in physical sciences and part with theology.
I have this to relate. He put telepathic thoughts and experiences into the terminology of divine angels. The divine angels he divides into 3 groups, the inner or highest level having greater wisdom to a lower level on the ratio of 10,000 to one. He describes the relationship to the lowest level with people also as the lowest level having greater wisdom by a ratio of 10,000 to one. This is because people are effected by the bodies sensory input. He indicates the wisdom is greater because of this for the divine angels.

What he perceived is the wisdom that results from 10,000 peoples experiences rather than divine angels and that is contrary to my belief that divine angels are people. The wisdom of 10,000 people with happy memories is no greater a level than one person who enjoys the wisdom of their own happy memories. The reason I understand this is because I have just gotten through with 3 decades + meditaing and seeing and talking to something like 50,000 visions, some angelic and some demonic. They were all telepathy received from other living peoples minds. God and the Angels are not peoples' idea of what they are like.

I'm reading Amazing Disgrace, by Catherine Dominic. It's her first novel, and it's really good. I posted something about it in new books, but since this thread was here I thought I'd respond too. I really loved her book, it made me think, laugh, cry...I wish I had the talent to write a novel myself. I'm amazed at people who can. Guess I'm just a good reader. *sigh*

I keep hearing so much about the Al Franken book. That's next on my list I think.

Of course, periodically I pick up a P. G. Wodehouse book and reread it. It's like seeing an old friend, I pick right up where I left off and really enjoy it.
