Culture Jam by Kalle Lasn, I recommend it to all activists because it will definitely give you a frighteningly clear perspective of where we are today.

Just finished two Dutch books -De reconstructie van Trijntje, an archeological book about an old skeleton that was found and what the woman might've looked like, and a short story book, Zigeuners by F. Bordewijk.
I don't read much in Dutch but the first was interesting because of my line of work and the second I am going to release as a bookcrossing book 'cause I do so rarely read the Dutch literature, and I got to reading it after all :) Now it's stickered and ready to go. :)
And currently I'm reading Pratchett's Going Postal.

So, I'm new here on the boards, and I saw this general question and thought, hey, that's a good place to start.

So, this is my reading list for the week:
"Death at Bearwallow" Elizabeth Madox Roberts
"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight"
    "The Dollmaker" Harriette Arnow
    Huckleberry Finn, Twain
    "The White Heron" Jewtt
"The Goodness of St. Rocque" Dunbar Nelson
    The Scum Manifesto
    And the Femine Mystique.

Yeah, my nose will be in a book all week. Actually, I'll have to have most of this read by Wed. I've got the Femine Mystique half way done and only about 50 more pages to go on Huck Finn.

I also just finished a book by Simon J. Ortiz from Sand Creek. I'll be reading quite a few American Indian authors of the next 14 weeks, and I wanted to say this was a very enlightening book. Very disturbing, but how can it not be when it's about the Sand Creek Massacre. It's a book of poetry and a quick read, but well worth it to be reminded of the true history of our country.

Also, I saw Eden say she was reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime. I read that book this summer and really enjoyed it. The author did a great job with handling the autism, he apparently has worked with autistic children for a long time and he really did do well with such a sensitive matter. I think one of the quotes on the cover made a comment about how he could have easily turned it into a novel that made fun of autism, or came off negatively, but he didn't. It was one of my favorites that I read this past summer

The Bonfire of the Vanities-Tom Wolfe

i am thoroughly enjoying this book, havent been able to put it down. it does a remarkable job getting in the heads of a half dozen yuppie yale graduates and exposing thier strong materialistic tendencies and the downfall that results.

The Mirror by Marlys Millhiser. Really interesting book about a mirror that has took two women in the same family and switched them....the twist is that they are in two different eras. Recommended reading to anybody that likes historical kind of stories.

Right now I am reading "Mr. Nice" by Howard Marks. He was a cannabis smuggler before he was caught and sent to jail for a stint. It is an easy read, a little slow at times, but there are bits of humor that make it worth a read; plus I like the subject matter. The book is a biography of Howard Marks, and might be a little hard to find as it was published in England. Howard is Welsh. I reccomend it.
