I'm tryin' to hold out on coffee at the moment but I foresee blurred vision and a massive hangover. Most likely whiskey induced.

last night and today - got a twelve pack variety mix from great lakes brewing company, up in cleveland. has three each of their holy moses white ale (a witbier in style, but with an unusual addition of chamomile), edmund fitzgerald porter (a longtime favorite of mine), elliot ness amber lager, and burning river pale ale....they're all pretty good. i'd had the porter and the wit before. at first i didnt like the wit very much. too odd, a bit funky (taste reminds me vaguely of some saisons i've tried...only vaguely) which i attribute mostly to the chamomile...i've learned to appreciate it more recently, and it is in fact quite good once you start to appreciate the unique herbal taste underlying the already unique flavors of a wit.

all four are pretty good, but best consumed on their own to fully appreciate their flavors. not that great mixed up, as a lot of them are of very strong character, and quite different from each other. this usually doesnt bother me much, but last night i had trouble enjoying them mixed up....the fruitiness of the pale ale was lost to sheer bitterness after drinking one of the wits and the lager first....

Red wine from Argentina. A 2003 Syrah.

This is as good as anything to come out of California, but you didn't hear that from me. :)

no, it really isnt drinkable. i find its just about one of the worst beers out there, even for cheap beer. there are plenty of beers i severely dislike because the quality doesnt match the price, but things like coors and busch are just plain disgusting. same for natty light and milwuakees best.

if you feel like being cheap, there are still a few decent selections available. look for stroh's or yuengling, or failing those PBR or genessee cream ale. there are others i'm sure, i'm just sure i'm unaware of them. yuengling i've heard about often, but just tried this week because it isnt available back home. its great - light and refreshing like most cheap beers, but palatable, and with a lightly malty (not so malty as to be heavy or even medium in body/mouthfeel) and somewhat hoppy flavor - in fact about the hoppiest cheap beer i've had. all this for less than six bucks a sixer. pretty good, perfectly drinkable beer, great price for the quality. failing this, when at home and i want a good beer for cheap i drink stroh's. its more on par with things like miller and bud than yuengling is, but better quality AND cheaper than they are. about 8 bucks for a 15 pack.

a couple screwdrivers with possibly the nastiest liquor ever made. I finally get a good hookup that can get whatever at the ABC and I get a 1.75L bottle of Odessa Vodka. It's not even in a glass bottle. Smells and tastes like detergent. But what do you expect for $13.99(incl. tax).

    Blech.
