some. hoegaarden is available to me but i've yet to try it. i LOVE blanche de chambly. blue moon is good, but not great. i recently tried an american witbier made with chamomile called holy moses white ale, by great lakes brewing company. i feel about it pretty much the same as i feel about blue moon....good.....interesting, way better than budwieser or something....very refreshing....but not at a great beer. i'd actually probably slightly prefer blue moon. i've had sam adams white ale (i think its the spring offering) which is also passable, but not great. so far i like them, but i'm not extremely impressed.

in general i prefer hefewiezens to witbiers...i like paulaner a lot, among others...

I don't like thin, very carbonated beer. That is what I was told blue moon was like.

not so much. its got a much nicer, fuller mouthfeel than most macrobrews, and it's less carbonated to boot. compared to many micros and imports it's mediocre....compared to other macrobrews and some of the lower quality imports (still more expensive than blue moon) it's divine. its sort of a middle of the road decent beer, always available, usually affordable, always at least drinkable. but you have to generally like wheat beers to like it.

you should at least try it. its not bad. just not fantastic.

if you like thicker beers, i've got some recomendations.

#1 for affordability, strength, palatability and thick mouthfeel is baltika's porter, at (iirc) 7%abv and about two bucks per pint. delicious, sweet, not too bitter....the malts are definitely key in this one.....

everyone has a different take on different beers, and everyones opinion varies mostly depending on what styles they like and what they're in the mood for at any given point in time....
then i'd say stone brewing company's smoked porter is also a very good value, along with salvator doppelbock.

Man you know mad beers, I couldn't find anything exotic like that tonight, ended up having sammy adams cherry wheat for the first time. Pretty good to me, tasted like cherry coke.

maybe i''m old fashioned (i'm only 23 but...) or maybe i'm just a pirate at heart. i'm drinking rum tonight. perhaps a bit much judging from how difficult it is to type this message and how many corrections i'm making. didn't ever realize how complicated typing was before. on acid it was just hard to finish a message becaos\se i was thinking the keys were trying to say something (never finished any of the posts i tried to type that night).) i have a fieeling that i'm going to feel silly about this post when i look at the forums tomorrow. well at least it may act as a trigger to rememebr the events of the night.

I never really like the smoked porter. I like the Arrogant Bastard, and the IPA, but the porter, eh i aint all about it. And I'll have to find some good White ales for you, because the ones you mentioned are pretty much the Bud's of white ales. I cant remember the names of the ones I've had, but I got a friend who would

rum's good, its just hard for me to drink straight liquor these days and if i'm drinking something expensive i dont want to mix it with something else.

rum is probably among my favorite spirits, though.

picked up a six pack of spaten optimator today when i was out getting motor oil (different stores unfortunately) and on my way home from work my guess is i'll pick up something cheap like a 40 of bud light or something. i already spend WAY too much on cigars, then you figure in beer and pot, and well....i've got a spending problem. in thinking i can have a six of something good on hand and just drink one a night and top it off with some cheap beer.

actually i was going to get a bottle of ozeki because its like 11 dollars or something for a liter and a half, but the only sakes they had at the store i went to were pricier than that....i really dont know about what's "good" or "bad" sake, but i like the taste of cheap stuff so i might as well stay ignorant and save some money....

but hey, this optimator beer was $8.50 for a six pack, and it boasts over 7%ABV (i think its like 7.40% or something) so compared to other imports of similar pricings, you get more bang for your buck (you'd pay about this much for guinness or bass or something....and with guinness not only is it much lower alcohol, the bottles themselves are slightly smaller....

blanche de chambly is terrific, actually. you ought to try it. while witbiers aren't my FAVORITE style, this is definitely among my favorite beers. it's put out by unibroue, the same folks that brew la fin du monde, trois pistoles, and maudite....

Once again, Bass bottles. So much better than tall cans in my opinion.

went to two of the biggest parties in this city (pridefest and comfest) today, and had a few drinks over the course of the day. had a screwdriver early to start off before representing my company in the parade....then had a rum and coke with a damn good cheeseburger in a bar on high street. after that got a jagerbomb at union station....left my friends at the bar to go wander through comfest for a while (i'm all for gay rights and everything, but being heterosexual i find that at times gay bars and the whole gay "scene" can get a little old to me....i just needed a break from loud music and nearly naked men...certainly not a good place for me to meet a girl....) and later returned to join in in downing a pitcher of miller lite. nasty, i know, but its cheap, it was hot as hades out, and i wasn't buying. now i'm home, had another screwdriver and now i'm on my second glass of warsteiner....

it sounds like a lot, but really i never got "drunk" considering that this was all stretched out over the course of about 8 or 9 hours

Diet Coke isn't good for you. Aspartame is very BAD stuff.

Taddy is yum. Had Fuller's London Porter for the first time over the last week. It was the best I've ever had.

Pretty much anything by Fullers is good. Their London Pride is my favorite from them.

i'll have to get something by fullers. i know i've seen it in the store, but never really paid attention or gave it much thought. i tend to ignore things i've not really heard of before, unless they really catch my attention in some way....

but your recommendations go a long way with me, so i'll keep in them in mind and perhaps pick up a six of something if i see it soon.

any particular brews by them that you like especially well?
