a couple shots of rum mixed with ginger ale, and a shot of vodka mixed with the same. now it's a 12oz. bottle of rogue dead guy ale (why do they call it "dead guy ALE" but it's known as a maibock, a german style of lager?)

i've had about 4-6 shots total (dont know the exact count) and half a beer. my next and last drink is in the fridge, another dead guy.

well sure...but the "ale" part of the name confuses me. if you go over to beeradvocate.com rogue dead guy ale is classified as a maibock, people discuss it as a maibock, and even the brewery itself says that the dead guy ale is a maibock.....but maibocks aren't ales at all. you'd think microbreweries (of all breweries) would be able to keep something as simple as lagers and ales seperate, right?

perhaps it is a marketing thing. i've seen dead guy ale on shelves of grocery stores; it's pretty well distributed. it seems to be a misconception among many beer drinkers that "ale" means you'll have a higher quality beer, that ales are inherently superior to any type of lager, and so on. putting the word "ale" on a beer's packaging probably adds to the snob factor in the minds of some people.

i dunno, but i DO know that i think it's a damn good beer and is great regardless of what you'd call it. its definitely worth drinking, even if not as an everyday beer.

had my first young's double chocolate stout last night and fell in LOVE with it....drank it warmer than it probably should have been, but it was still delicious, with rich, velvety chocolate flavors and textures......definitely not too sweet, surprisingly, but not bitter at all, either. seems to me it would be an almost perfect dessert beer, as would salvator or mcewan's scotch ale.

That chocalte Youngs is great, and I drink all my beer warm. I've only had that kind twice though, it's in a purple can right? Or am I thinking of something else......

well, i got it in a big bottle, but i've seen it in the large cans as well, and the packaging is mostly purple. it's wonderful.

dont get me wrong, i don't mind beer at room temperature sometimes, and would prefer it warm to ice cold most of the time, but still ideally i'd drink it chilled, just not really cold. the beer in question i would definitely want chilled a bit, particularly during warm weather (it IS june)

Wow, y'all must have some serious pin money, drinking Young's and whatnot on a weeknight!

I'm trying to keep the adult beverages down to just weekends nowadays. I love love love Tucher Heifweizen; I'm a big wheat beer fan, especially in the summer.

It was "Alaskan Margaritas" over the weekend, but only because I had a bottle of very cheap tequila left over from a memorable Parrothead Party.

    Tonight? Propel, I'm afraid. . .

(That Chocolate Stout rocks, by the way)

well compared to chimay or unibroue or even samuel smith's, young's is pretty affordable. i think baltika porter will soon become a regular for me, though, as it's downright affordable, its strong (iirc it's 7%abv), and best of all it tastes great.

besides all this i turned 21 less than 7 days ago and i'm still in splurge mode

well, i'm not drinking beer tonight. i'm drinking cognac. but don't be fooled into thinking i'm drinking good brandy, but it looked like the best i could afford given the pretty limited selection.

i've never had brandy before, so i decided to give it a whirl. i tried it straight...though its a cheap bottle (for cognac, that is...it was 27 bucks for a fifth, with taxes) its the best liquor i've tried for sipping, except perhaps cabo wabo....very interesting taste....i've got to try some nicer stuff sometime, but its WAY too expensive. i can afford good beer and sometimes good cigars, but i'll never be able to justify expensive brandy...

well, i had the day off, and spent a LOT of it on tobacco and beer.

1 22oz bottle of st. rogue's red ale (drinking now) by rogue brewing company
1 giant can of fosters (2 bucks, it was cheap so i bought it as an appetizer....the beer itself sucked, though)

and what i've not opened yet include a pint of young's double chocolate stout, to be saved for later with a macanudo maduro, a small bottle of lindeman's kriek lambic, because while he is more of a wine drinker than a beer drinker my brother who travelled to belgium LOVED this, and another 750ml bottle of corsendonk brown abbey ale...i've got my work cut out for me. if only i had pot, this would be the PERFECT day off :)

so far i've been laying in the yard smoking a CAO brazilia caricoa (smallest cigar i've ever fallen in love with...expensive at the tinderbox though, so while i want another i'll save the other four for later) drinking my big thing of fosters and now my st. rogues......

    mmmm.....beer, sun and cigars.....

i ordered two bottles of armagnac today...at least one bottle is going towards a liqueur i'm making for the fall, as well as the rest of my cognac (however much is left when the brandy comes)

its going to be mostly apple flavored, but with spices and perhaps a little pear, as well....

You sir, are one lucky person. They stopped selling Red ale around here! That has always been my favorite beer by far, hands down, no question, not possible to change my decision! How are you liking (loving?) it so far?!

Do you normally go to a big liquor store to get the young's chocolate? I wanted some this weekend but didn't know where to go.

Usually they are sold at bars that just have a large variety, like restaraunt bars.

O i c. I don't go to bars often, the ones I've been to usually don't have a huge selection.

many stores that sell beer (liquor stores, cigar shops, the like) have a good selection, even if it is small. i only know of two places near me to get young's double chocolate stout....a small campus beer/tobacco shop that's too far to justify just for that, and the world market store near my home.

i liked the st. rogue's red ale, but i think i like dead guy better. it was definitely good....last batch of homebrew was sort of in between the red ale and stone's arrogant bastard ale, leaning more towards the red ale. i liked it....especially way better than the fosters.

the lindeman's kriek was my first lambic beer. too expensive for what it is, and it was WAY different than most beer, but still wonderful. i'll get lindeman's again soon, i'm sure, but not for a little bit...

it tastes like sparkling cherry juice....no hint of alcohol, hops, or malt....its like fizzy juice that gets you drunk.....tasty though.

sour like i expected, but not in a bad way. i was almost scared to try a lambic....but i'm enjoying it.
