you'll have that. i dont make much money and spend more than i should on things like fine beers and liquors and cigars, and sometimes it catches up with me and i find myself drinking strohs or something.

oh well. i figured i can spend some money on good beer today since i haven't had a beer since monday night. not one! and tonight i dont know which beer i'll drink, but i'm only going to have one cause i'll take a painkiller or two and smoke a gravity bong....back home...not entirely better, but still....good enough to drink a beer again, i think!

last night i had a Otter Creek World Tour - Otter Kilter. Its modeled after Scotch Wee Heavy Ales. first time i've ever tried this style...it was pretty good. i liked it.

i like Otter Creek's offerings, mainly because i go to school in Vt and its decent. i don't know much about the organic line they offer - Woloavers - but it seems interesting and i'll try it eventually. i want to check out the brewery at some point

scotch ale isnt my favorite, but the two i've had are alright. one was an american scotch ale, and quite aggressive and hoppy, and the other was the classic mcewan's scotch ale, which isnt nearly as hoppy and is delicious but incredibly sweet and, in my opinion, only fit as a dessert beer. still, i liked them both, i just wouldnt drink either one very often. great for a cold afternoon when you dont have anything to do but sit around and eat homemade beef stew and drink heavy beers.

yea, it was definately a 1 bottle of it and i was finished. it was good, but don't think it'd be a beer i would drink quite a bit - like you said, it seemed nice enough to sit around and eat some beef stew with.

after that i went with some harpoon UFO and Sam Adams Cherry Wheat haha.
    was a good drunken night

i've not had the cherry wheat.

i'm having the hardest time making up my mind regarding which bottle i'll open, tonight, though.

i know i should stick with the alt since its smaller and cheaper and less alcoholic, but i really want to try a saison!

Thanks for the recommendations, nesta. I ended up getting 4xpint of Boddington's which was most enjoyable. I'm hanging out tonight with my cousin, who is a serious beer afficionado, so hopefully I will get to try something new which I will report on here.

    cool!

i finally got off of work and got home, and promptly ate dinner (mashed potatoes and a jello cup...not TOO bad for not being able to eat much real food.

i took about 13mgs worth of vicodin, hit the gravity bong a couple times, and cracked open a very slightly chilled bottle of uerige sticke alt, and poured it into the closest thing i have to a stange (probably too tall to be proportioned properly, i'm not sure really. the shape is right, though) its delicious! definitely worth what i paid for, and great for a return to the world of beer.

the bottle is great, too. i'm definitely holding onto it and cleaning it out for use when i get more into homebrewing.

in addition to this, i got a big 750ml bottle of hennepin. two beers great beers i've never had of styles completely new to me, and under 10 dollars. a bargain compaired to what this would cost in a bar - IF i were lucky enough to come across it in one!

but since i've got a few painkillers and some pot, and i havent had any alcohol for a few days and should just take it easy anyway, and since i work at 10 am, i might as well just stick to this single beer, and save the hennepin for tomorrow evening.

monday i should be getting my armagnac and unibroue edition 2004 in the mail

well i went to a mexican restaraunt with my family tonight, so the only decent beer i could get was a negra modelo, but while its not my favorite i do think its a damn quaffable brew.

i'm on my first ever bottle of hennepin. i dont know my exact thoughts on it at the moment, but i certainly enjoy it. definitely my style....not too hoppy, plenty of flavor, complex (though i suspect it will get better as it warms a bit)....and i'm glad its not as high as 8%ABV, because lately i've not been craving the high gravity beers so much as normal. its refreshing and delicious, but i'll need more time to have any specific thoughts on it other than "good" or "bad"

in my fridge is a sixer of blue moons spring ale, which is made with limes rather than oranges, i guess. i've not had it, and while i dont expect it to be a new favorite beer, i expect to enjoy it reasonably well and it should be interesting to say the least

    Hennepin is 7.8%, so it's basically 8%.

    7.7 according to the label.

    still, it doesnt breach 8%.

its all semantics. the actual number is unimportant. the fact is, i have lately been interested primarily in beers between 8-12%ABV

regardless, its refreshing and lower ABV than the beers i've been interested in the past few months

delicious anyway, and i thoroughly enjoy it and will buy it again very soon. it hits the spot quite nicely, really
