well yeah, it is pretty sweet. i'd consider it something of a "dessert" beer. but not so sweet to be a negative point. as my introduction to scotch ales, i have no way to say whether i think its a good or bad example of the style; however i had so far enjoyed it and it has gotten me interested in trying more scotch ales. i like the big, sweet and aromatic malty, caramelly smell and taste...it's not my very favorite, but my selection is limited (compared to yours) and this is pretty close to the top of my list of what i like....

its a nice change of pace from a lot of other beers. the sweetness and strong caramelly/malty notes lean more towards the indulgant side than the sickening side for me, although i could not envision drinking large quantities of this in one sitting.

i think it's very tastey, but definitely best in moderation

well it's not tonight yet, but later on (after work) i'll crack open a bottle of don de dieu. last night it was la fin du monde. tomorrow it's going to be paulaner hefe-weizen and perhaps a little bit of samuel adams summer ale. been going to wheat the past couple days, though i generally prefer darker beers.

sapporro is alright, but not fantastic. every once in a while i find myself wanting some, though. it seems like it would be great to have a cold one on a summer afternoon.

i can't wait...its now less than two weeks until my 21st birthday, when i can try whatever kinds of beers i want and don't have to stick to sending a friend in to get something specific i know i like [IMG]

it's gonna be some fun. need to make sure to get a new drivers license real soon, cause around here you need a new id when you turn 21, and they won't let you buy alcohol without getting the new id. its kind of lame, really.

i'm gonna really tie some on come my birthday, though. i'm thinking perhaps some edmund fitzgerald porter, or some unibroue, or hell, even chimay. probably i'll end up with some edmund fitzgerald and then some samuel smiths imperial stout, though. but who knows, i'm sure i'll use it as an excuse to splurge on some expensive beer and drink like two big bottles of chimay grande reserve or something.

tonight is dedicated to guinness extra stout (first time...and hey, it IS better than guinness draught...much more character....a bigger, more robust and even almost smokey flavor)

though i have another six pack, of bass, in addition to the extra stout. i might throw a bass into the mix this evening as well (black and tan, maybe?) but i guess we'll just have to wait and find out...

in addition to a bigger malt character, there is a much more definite hop aroma and bitterness. a good thing in this case, if you ask me. all around more complex and inviting. and with a slightly higher alcohol level, i'm not complaining (hey, 6%ABV rather than 4.2% makes a little difference, anyway...)

last night was most of a bottle of bacardi select and a shot or two of bacardi 8. tonight will most likely rid me of a good amount of the remaining select, and a bit of the bacardi 8 as well. both are pretty good, but i'd say the bacardi select is a little more rough around the edges and of the two i'd use it for mixed drinks before the aged stuff, which i'd be much more prone to sipping or drinking in shots.

both are good either alone or mixed, though.
    [IMG][IMG]

cost me like 32 bucks for a the two fifths. got the bottles last night to do some last minute "training" before hitting the bar on my 21st birthday (day after tomorrow)

looks like bacardi changed the packaging of the bacardi select. i can't find a single picture of the bottle i've got, but it doesnt look like that. the labels are very similar, the rum is the same color, and the name is the same though......but the bottle curves and such...

i like bass, personally. hoppy, but not so hoppy as most pale ales, which is good because i like some bitterness but not TOO strong a hop character. it's sweet, but not cloying at all. its not too heavy, but not so light a mouthfeel as to classify it as watery. it is a little on the lighter side, though.

definitely good, even if its not what i would consider a craft beer.

    i'd NEVER turn one down.

tonight i'm drinking bacardi. mostly bacardi 8, but also some bacardi select in there with it. i've had one rum and coke, and a bit of straight rum, too. rum and i seem to get along very well :)

i'm also halfway through a lonsdale....the brand is la aroma de cuba....my first of this line, and i'm quite impressed, though i think its a slightly overpriced.

listening to primus tonight.....i'm pretty drunk and loving life at the moment.

I black out everytime I drink now. It's great. Even only a couple of drinks, idk what's wrong with me. I fell asleep on the side of the road friday walking home in the rain, from a costume party where I was dressed as a hippie. I don't remember any of that of course, but apparently when I woke up on the side of the road I called a friend and was like 'DUDE COME PICK ME UP I FELL ASLEEP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I'M ON THE STREET WITH THE STORES, THE STORES!!'
