tonight i had the apple ephemere by unibroue (a canadian company which makes some pretty good belgian-style beers) which i was surprised to find i actually liked better than lindeman's pomme lambic, primarily because its much less sweet and less heavily fruit-flavored...and later on tonight i'll probably have the bottle of orval i got, though i've also got about five other beers to choose from, and i also have some good scotch and good rum, so maybe i won't drink the orval after all...only time will tell

i bought one of those "make your own six pack" thingies at world market today...don't remember what all i got but i did buy the ephemere, a bottle of old peculiar (which i've had before), a bottle of bells best brown ale, a goose island oatmeal stout, and two others i can't remember i've never had before.

also the bottle of orval, a dimple mug, and a new pilsner. i dont like the aesthetics of it as much as the pilsner glass i used to have, but then the last one i got i had two of, both of which broke easily, and this is heavier glass and should fare better in the dishwashing machine.


i might have a cheapass domestic or two at the bowling alley tonight because its a coworker's going away party, but i may abstain. don't know what i'll do yet, i'll see how the evening goes.

Heineken and Corona aren't exactly cheap. They are crap, but they are way overpriced. There are a lot of good craft beers that cost just as much, if not less than Heineken and Corona.

 

Yea your true about that, but where im located, I would need to go at least 5 minutes away to get good beer, and it snowed pretty nicely today, and I walked in my pajamas to get my beer

why drink heineken if you're broke? you could have just gone with the bud, or better yet some leinenkugels.

hell, if i'm drinking nasty beer i want it to either be slightly palatable and dirt cheap like strohs, or DAMN cheap and nasty but strong enough you dont need to drink much of it, like steel reserve (so nasty, but two of the big cans and i'm done. get that shit ice cold and chug it....imagine the taste of vanilla and banana that it hints at and its not tooooooo god awful, and it gets you buzzed with little effort. for a 2 dollar buzz you can't beat it....course i'd say if you're broke, just get some gordons vodka)

 

i've heard the stella sold in belgium is good, but i've never had it. the stuff available in the states isn't very good, though. not terrible, but not even a little bit impressive to me.



as for the person drinking goose island oatmeal stout...how is it? i've got a bottle of it waiting for me at home, and i've never tried it. i'm anxious.

last night....had the ephemere by unibroue, then went to the bowling alley and slammed one each of a amber bock (surprisingly not too bad), a killians (blegh) and a budweiser (YUCK)....then went home and had a scrimshaw pilsner, a bottle of old peculier, and a bottle of john courage amber.

today i had two shots of rum after school, and i'm about to draw a hot bath and relax with some isle of jura 10 year single malt....going out tonight again, and dont know what i'll drink, but it wont be much.

 

last night i had a glass of macallan cask strength single malt and a glass of old speckled hen at the bar, and then we went to a friends house and smoked some pretty good pot....by the time i got home i busted out a bottle of bells best brown ale (which i thought was very nice, with a VERY surprisingly light body considering the aroma) and the goose island oatmeal stout. after those, and just a tiny bit of gosling's black seal rum and possibly half a shot of jura (i dont know, it seems likely though) i feel asleep pretty nicely

didnt have too bad a time getting up today, but then i DID get the luxury of sleeping in

 

With the people Im hanging with tonight, you can pretty much guarentee it will be something cheap, Corona, Pabst, Lager, something of the sorts. BUT, there should still be some Goose left, so, wamp wamp haha This thread is the shit BTW Nesta, almost to 1000 posts!

 

It's funny how in PA they call Yuengling simply "lager."

I think Yuengling is pretty decent stuff, especially in warmer weather when you don't want anything too heavy. The price makes it even better. It's way better than Corona and Heineken.
