oh and hey relayer, you ought to check out "Three Philosophers" by ommegang...its fucking awesome! its a blended beer, partly a belgian style but american brewed strong ale, and partly lindeman's kriek lambic....very tasty, very complex. not at all like a straight lambic, but you can definitely tell its there.

yesterday i had a pint of Mountain Ale by The Shed Restaurant and Brewery - based in VT. at 7.0% abv it was a nice beer to ahve with lunch, couldn't tell it was 7% though :)
    poured dark amber/brown. tasted earthy.

then later on at the Rustic to celebrate my friends 22nd - shot of gin, cap'n coke, captain cocunut (delicious, made me want to be somewhere warm), godfather - scotch and amaretto on the rocks, then 5 pints of Long Trail IPA while playing hockey (drinking game). left the bar, went to a party and i drank a good amount of Coors light :(

well i'm all out of booze at home except half of a small bottle of dry vermouth i had for martinis.....its good on its own, too, but its not what i want right now.

so most likely i'll pick up a bomber of guinness extra stout and a fifth of something affordable...maybe some gordons vodka, or else maybe some rum or gin.

but shoot, i might just get a pint of some nicer booze and then load up on cheap beer, instead....

either way, i shouldnt spend a lot of money, but considering all the fucking snow and wind and how i dont have anything important until 1:30 tomorrow, i'll be ok to have a few drinks tonight, so i need to get something!

It's a strong 14% ABV German Doppelbock. Very good stuff and exceptionally smooth for the alcohol content. I've never had it on tap, though... only in the bottles. I think I might get some this weekend.

I cant even remember what I drank last night after the first 5 beers, some barley wine, some oatmeal stout, some Chimay I think. I woke up with 3 cuts on my face, a bump on my head, and burns on my stomach. Must have been a good night!

WTF?!?!?! I thought Lagunitas Brown Shugga was a seasonal?! Because we went though 4 cases of that (yes, after St. Rogue's Red Ale, Brown Shugga is my next in line for favorite beer of all time ((Although I dont generally care much for Lagunitas brews on a large scale, I enjoy only their barley wine in addition to BS)) about a month and a half ago, and I have yet to see it again in my area. I've been to at least 10 different distributors and well over 25 pubs in Philadelphia and the surrounding area of about a 30 mile radius in the east, north and west directions, and the majority of employess, when asked about Brown Shugga, claimed to have never even heard of it! Most knew of Lagunitas though, which I found to be strange because I had easily assumed that BS would have been one of their more popular beers. Do you know it to be a seasonal or year-round? Also, Lagunitas is based in Petaluma, correct? I have a friend who has been, said it was magic land :)

Yeah, it is a seasonal winter beer. It's considered a holiday-seasonal. From what I've read, it comes out in late October. The place I get my beer from had a few six-packs left over, so I picked up one. I've never had this beer, and I still have yet to give it a try. I probably will tomorrow night. As a matter of fact, and strangely enough, the first time I even heard of this beer was in this forum. I think it might have been from you, actually. I have heard a lot of hype surrounding this beer in recent months, so when I saw it today I just had to pick up a sixer and give it a try. The store I get my beer from has several beers from Lagunitas, but this is the first beer I've bought from them. I am hoping I will enjoy it and will write a review once I do try it. And yes, they are from Petaluma, Ca.

Oh man, you are in for a treat then! For once I can actually tell you how good a beer is that you haven't tried before me  BUT, now you'll see for yourself tomorrow anway :) I may actually, now that I think of it, like Brown Shugga as my favorite beer, but that's constantly changing. I dont know exactly what it is about the taste that sucks me in so much, but there is definitley something special going on in that brew. The aroma, hoppiness, caramel taste and armoa, smoothness, sublte spicyness, and drinkability at I think 10% if Im not mistaken just make it one amazing beer! Plus, the brown sugar doesn't hurt, either  I dont know, knowing some of the stlyes you've raved about, it may not live up to quite what you would expect an AMAZING medium bodied beer to be, but in my book, for right now it sit's at #1

Although, watch out Brown Shugga, because Dirtybongwater has promised to introduce me this dear, dear friend named Samichlaus this weekend, so you never know, somebody could be getting a #1 title taken away VERY soon ;)
