last night it was a big bottle of chimay grande reserve followed by some samuel adams winter lager.....

today it will most likely be a couple winter lagers mixed in with a couple guinness

Right now I'm drinking Biere D'art, which is of the Biere de Garde style. This stuff is made by Heavyweight Brewing Co. in New Jersey.

tonight it's lowenbrau and spaten. i got them at a supermarket in a crummy part of town, but its got a semi decent beer selection....

i got them because i knew virtually knothing about them but wanted to try them....

lowenbrau is pretty unremarkable but drinkable. nothing i'd write home about, but i wouldn't turn one down.

spaten i liked quite a bit, but still wasn't exactly awe-inspiring.

my tummy's not too very pleased this morning, but oh well.

lowenbrau was ok, definitely drinkable, but not my cup of beer, so to speak. tonight it's chimay premiere and arrogant bastard ale, 750ml each at 7% and 7.2% respectively.

chimay premiere: i remember chimay grande reserve as being much better.

arrogant bastard ale: maybe i got a bad bottle? it's was great except for a character reminiscent of kitty litter. definitely well made, but there's something "off" about it somehow that i can't put my finger on....this is still very good...

need to try it again in a month or two. i like it overall, it reminds me of the homebrew i just made with the father if i'd drink it a week prior. i think it's just a much stronger hop character than i'd like on an ale of this type....

like i said, well made, but maybe not for regular rotation in my selection...

You just keep getting good beers! Arrogant Bastard, to me, is only second next to Rogues Red ale. I usually drink at least 3 Arrogant's a weekend, They are just so good

    well, whatever you like.

personally most of my favorites so far have been from unibroue.....i've not yet tried a beer from them that didnt absolutely captivate me from beginning to end, regardless of the style.

arrogant bastard is good, but i need to try it again to give it a fair review. however, i dont think the next try will be soon.

i was impressed enough with the paulaner hefe weizen that i am now very anxious to explore this style further, and i'm certain i will buy this brand again.

the arrogant bastard ale tastes very similar to the homebrew i just made with my dad though. i'm sure our's is a little less strong, but who knows. personally i think the homebrew is a little more palatable.....

the chimay premiere wasn't as impressive as the grande reserve true enough, but it was still fantastic. the highlight of my evening. the trois pistoles, however, has been the highlight of my week, beer-wise

hefe weizen is a great style! I love it. Tonight it's gonna be a nice fat jug of Opium tea washed down with some Rogues and my favorite mix : Goya Pinapple juice and vodka! But, mostly just tea.

oh man, that mcewans has me hooked. along with hefeweizens i now also have to look more into scotch ales (and nearly every other beer style [IMG])

its a tremendous beer.....this is my take on it, though mind you my palate is probably not as refined as some people's, and i'm still learning....but i would describe this as possesing big, malty flavors with a pretty light hop characteristic....held up to the light it is not quite opaque, but it certainly lacks the clarity of bud light........it's got a dark garnet tint to it, leaning towards flat out brown, and with a nice thick tan head that subsides rather quickly. i've tried it in small 6oz. drinking glasses (improvisation at a typical college kid's apartment), and with my bare bones glassware selection i've tried it from a snifter and a slightly bulbous stemmed pilsner...so far the best results have come from the snifter, but i've never had BAD results....i figure i will continue to drink this from a snifter until i can expand my glass selection to include some more specialized glasses.....

i'm sure a thistle glass for scotch ales may end up being one of the last additions, unfortunately.....hell, i've seen pics, but can't find any for sale even...except of course for painfully expensive crystal glasses.

I think McEwan's is nasty, personally. It's way too sweet, to the point of being cloying, and pretty much undrinkable (at least to me). For scotch ales, it's actually pretty low on the list. I would recommend Skullsplitter instead, even though I am not a huge fan of the style.
