What're a few ticks to help an animal in need? If you couldn't bring yourself to help it out you should've just put it out of it's misery. That is of course if you're so certain it was suffering.

No...knock it over the head or something...no...I would not have been able to do that.....you don't understand the sticker bushes and things I would have to get through...and if I decided to go to it..I would have walked in the water. I wanted to have a stretcher board of some kind.....cardboard box....something like that...gloves....etc...and carry it out of there, is what i really wanted to do.That is why i looked for any person out there that could have gotten me those things.

I'm going to make a summer fruit salad, with mangos, watermelon, cherries, strawberries, and raspberries. I'm going to add feta cheese to it, I saw a recipe for this, and going to try it. :)

I get that not everyone is willin' to deal with either side of an injured animal situation. Personally I've always done what's necessary to stop a creature's suffering but it does take some serious grit

I was basin' my replies off the way you seemed certain that it was in dire straits. If you were uncertain then that's a harder question. Each time I've had to deal with an injured animal I was absolutely certain that there was no other option. Sounds to me as though your gut is tellin' you you should've braved the water, ticks, & brambles to provide assistance. Only you can truly know if what you did pr didn't do was right.

and if I did not have the two pugs with me goiing for thier half a mile, I would have...with Stan waiting a half mile up the road for us...to put them back in the car. I told Stan and wanted to go back..but he said no...."We have been bitten and stuff by enough creatures...."...yeah, i should have gone back alone anyway...yeah, i should have.

well, I can't stand this anymore...i am taking my flashlights....cardboard box and gloves out there in the dark...walking across water to exact spot by memory.....as I am paralyzed with worry and sadness right now for the creature......so it is the only thing I can think to do now.

Stan stopped me and told me what if it is a snapping turtle that was burying itself in the mud there and laying eggs or something...was I going to deal with that in the dark.....NO!.........He is right. He told me to wait for first light of day, at least, and he would go, too....as he cares , too. If something died there we will see that tomorrow also.

It could have been a big turtle...It wasn't exactly close for me to really see....and they do open their mouths like that if feeling threatened.......so he made a lot of sense to me.

In 1968 I attended Ithaca College as a music major (piano and voice). After a year and a half I stupidly decided to get married (I was Catholic so we married, It was the Vietnam war and he was going to go and die... turned out he had flat feet so that did not happen). I worked to support us since he was still in school. My job was at Cornell and one of the benefits was the ability to take a course a semester. I did that for two years. Technically I did attend Cornell.

The marriage only lasted three years. After I moved to Ohio (1990) I got another job at a university (library). Again I was allowed to take classes as one of my benefits. Two classes a semester (one class could come out of work hours the other class had to be after work hours.) I graduated in 1998. Basically I was on the 30 year plan for college.

That is more than you wanted to know. :smileycat:

I saw an outline of the animal still yesterday, so I did walk across the creek...and I think it was a huge squirrel....It was so covered in mud, though. I have no idea why a squirrel would have been that covered in mud. I am also convinced that when it looked at me....open mouth silent screaming...and back side paralyzed.....and then lay back down....it died right then......and i was there for it...

My friend came over yesterday to go to the neighbors, and I was telling her the story outside.......and the wind chimes my neighbors gave me, started playing...and Jill, my friend...said "there is no breeze at all...no wind......what would make them chime like that....."

The don't chime when there is no breeze at all...but they were as i was sadly telling her the story......

She told me...the spirit of the animal was visiting me and telling me that it was ok...that it knew I was so tortured and cared about it so much....and that it knew that.....

Jill made me feel a little better..although, I was still quiet and sad all day yesterday over this.

I can't beat myself up anymore. I really did do the best i could at the time....I looked for a place to hitch the dogs...even a neighbor to hold them ...while I looked closer.....I do believe it died in the first minute or two of me spotting it.
Next post will be more about yesterday....

    Yesterday was good.

Jill, after working all night and not getting out of work until 8 am and then came over, told me she was only going to stay at the neighbors for a couple of hours and then go home to sleep.... She was tired.

and my neighbors party started at 2 pm....

    yeah, sure, Jill...LOL

Stan and I left there at 8:30 pm...and Jill stayed there until 11 pm......HA! THAT IS VERY FUNNY.

Stan and I left the party for a little wile at 6 pm to go walk the dogs a little...who needed to go out.......so we started...Stan drives up ahead of me...and I am following behind out of site. He waits half a mile away.......so there I am coming and I see Stan's car backing up...and he screams at me..."GO BACK HOME! A BIG BLACK BEAR!"

He didn't need to tell me twice.....I did not see the bear...but Stan did...and he said it was huge, black and shiny....and turned to see Stan coming in the car and then went towards Stan and the car....that is when Stan hustled the car in back drive to beat it out of there and back this way.....

Now what if Stan had been waiting on one of the main roads...and the bear came out with me and 2 pugs on foot alone?!...ummm...no, thank you...and I never bring a cell phone with me, either....

so no more for me alone on these roads....and I will start from now on on the main road.

so needless to say....jogging the dogs yesterday for one or two miles was out of the question.....so we went back to the neighbors....

Jill loved everyone.....and they all enjoyed Jill....I knew that would be the case.....They loved my fruit salad and the big holdiay cake Jill brought and contributed ...in the shape of a flag with strawberries as the red stripes and blueberries as the stars ..That was an expensive wonderful cake....but I could not try it....boo hoo,....:( ....lol

I was quiet yesterday but really loved spending time with Emmy Lou.....and when I was leaving, she looked sad...and i told her..."hey, ...I am your neighbor...and you will always see me."

I think I am closest to Emmy and her dad, Josh, more than anyone that was there....although I do love everyone.

I got home in time to watch the New York City fireworks on tv...i always love hearing Stars and Strip-es Forever with that......and the band in NYC last night was good.....and i wanted to be home to calm down the animals here before all of the fireworks started here.

and the food that kept coming all day and night long...Holy mackeral, as usual.!

......Big thick steaks barbecued for everyone.....about 1 pound or 2 each...Stan and Jill ate one. I did not have that.... had many of the clams in the shells, though, with lemon...but no butter.......hot dogs, hamburgers....pork ribs.....salt potatoes, green salads.....macaroni salad....corn on the cob....chips, cheeses and on and on...I cannot even remember....I just ate the clams....green salad and my fruit salad........and then later after we left...hostess, Diana, was making big huge pepper and sausage subs for everyone....Jill had one, she told me....We had left before those came...I could not have any of that, anyway.....:(.

Oh, yeah...I forgot they had huge shrimp ...about 5 of them on a skewer, too, and usually I like shirmp..but these were seasoned a little too saltily, so I only had one of those...and gave Jill the rest of my shrimp skewer..Boy, she and Stan can both eat....lol

Oh, I love turtles no matter what they are doing...but the thing I saw was a squirrel...no shell and a tail like a squirrel and shaped face and ears...and I could see matted fur everywhere.....must have been pulled through the mud by something that caught it...and then it got away to die...is my guess.......

Anyway, I started a new powder last night, after I got home...metabolic repair one......two big scoops full in 12 oz of water once daily..It s chocolate flavored so when shaken up with water tastes like chocolate milk, as it is thick....and I have so much energy again, and am hungry....! lol....but I have to exercise dogs soon before I can eat...oh, bummer....lol......maybe I can get rid of lingering bad, sad feelings between squirrel and bear today....get back on the horse kind of thing....i hope.

    I certainly tried yesterday....lol

Ok so I click on the What Are You doing thread because hey, it's Thursday and I'm maxin' relaxin' actin' all cool, and what do I find?

Some powerful next level mortality life and death stuff.

I dunno... But um, hope your presence was a comfort in its final moments. I imagine squirrels feel similar things to humans when passing... Fear, confusion, loneliness.

So I guess I'm feeling empathy for squirrels now? Intriguing.
