What are the guidelines for new members?

when i first joined and posted, people were really nasty and after posting a bit, i was sent nasty pm's or a post would die if i posted in the thread

i originally came to this forum for info and i am still here it is no point getting your knickers in a twist with people you don't know.

I would recommend that a new member roam around a bit, read some posts, get to know the place before jumping in and being too serious.

For example, there are a lot of forums here to choose from, don't put a serious post in RT...

Other than that, feel free to cozy up

 

don't directly dis (and certainly not threaten) anyone else as a person. its thoughts and ideas we come here to share and beat over the head. (or at least i do) not each other. oh and don't do anything that will get the board in trouble. i mean i should think both of those things pretty much obvious anywhere. but then a lot of people seem to show up here who haven't lived long enough to realize how obvious both of those things ought to be.

i don't know of any need for there to be any other guidlines then that. their broadest possible application pretty much ought to cover everything.

I was going to post a reply about how I cannot stand new members who act like they can say whatever idiotic shit that they want and expect to be listened to and respected for it. I was going to write about the ignorance of stating something as basic as the fact that opinions differ. I was even going to write about how I love it how people take Bird's posts to heart when they are so obviously sarcastic...

But your post changed my mind. You have given me a new religion. From now on, I will worship the ground you n000000bzzzzz walk on. Treat all people equally or some shit like that, right?

 

Well..... it used to be a cardinal sin to piss off the trolls. Cause back then everybody seemed to like the trolls....

I've wondered this myself at times. I've tried to run off new people who didn't leave and later wondered why I disliked them. I've seen people I liked run off by other people I like and I've tried to run off people that are liked by people I like.

I think some people just put out the completely wrong vibes and get the response they get. If you notice, the only people that make it here are people that are, for the most part, respectful, intelligent, open minded(or atleast open to discussion), and dynamic. People who are all this way or all that way don't generally get taken under like people who are. And face it, anybody who has been new here knows you almost certainly need atleast one person to take a liking to you kind of quickly or you can get left in the dust in a hurry.

I dunno what causes it, but I know I don't care. I try not to pay too much attention to people in their first year anyway. Once they've been here they long, I figure they're in for the long haul. haha.

 

People who get run off are weak and deserve to get run off.
