What are the best places to live in the UK?

I meant best place in britain Ive covered about as much of Britain as i have France, which is a lot, only i havent lived in scotland

France feels much more like home to me but theyve both bored me now. Im off to Australia soon

I would recommend anywhere that the houses cost more than 1.2 Million Pounds as the police patrol those areas in fairly huge numbers there (perhaps 4 or 5 police officers to every 3 miles) whereas in Walthamstow and areas in the inner citties where people rent their damp and dingy council flats and pay rent to landlords that cant be bothered to spend money cleaning up cockroach infestations, there are perhaps only 2 or 3 police per 6 miles. consequently most stabbings and murders in cities occur in areas that the police arent being bribed enough to go into - Try to live within 1/2 a mile of someone who is a local politician and that way you can garauntee that there will be police patrols down your street every half hour
also the area will be noticeably cleaner and you will get much better services such as library facilities etc

With all due respect, if the cultural highlight of a place in Britain involves going to watch live American sports and such well known bands as Justin Timberlake, Take That, The Grave Dodging Stones and Scissor Sisters in an extortionate corporate neon nightmare, big enough to park a Boeing 747 in named after a fucking mobile phone network then count me out of that cultural hotbed. I'd gather more enjoyment watching buskers or repeatedly putting my head through glass windows.

This quote sums it all up. Anyone who has ever been to Reading will know what I mean. Trying to sell somewhere by comparing it to Reading is like trying to sell somewhere as a family holiday destination by comparing it to Tirana.

Again, that line sums it all up. In a town with sooo much to do and see and discover you list the marina as one reason you wouldn't kill yourself. The Marina, home to such quirky individual establishments as McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Bowlplex, Cineworld, Asda, Cafe Rouge etc etc etc. A place where you can go to an American style cinema to watch American films or play American bowling in an American style bowling alley and eat American style food in even more American style places. If you're lucky you might even get to try some food from different countries like Italy or China cooked fresh from the freezer by some spotty 17 year old english kid in a restaurant owned by an American conglomerate!!
And you won't need to worry about car parking, no siree, we have all the car parking you can imagine in our good ol' American style parking lot, oh yeah!
That place is a concrete nightmare and it's a good job it's out of town as otherwise I'd frequently have to deal with people who enjoy spending time/money there whilst in a place with much more diversity to it than a soulless plastic hellhole with the same shops as every other town in the country/continent/western world.

And with regards to the traffic 'problem', anyone who isn't a complete mong knows that living in Brighton you don't need a car. Place is easy enough to get around on foot (you're never really more than half an hour walk from anywhere) and the cycle network is constantly improving, work is beginning on a tram system soon as well. It's good if the roads are blocked up anyhow as it encourages people not to take their car next time.

Sure it's a town with problems but you really haven't a clue about what those problems are. One major one being individual businesses and establishments being closed down to make way for the globalised culture of places such as the Marina and others where London/multinational chains can open and hark their overpriced shit to the selfish classes (with guilty consciences and 'green' credentials haha) and people with cool haircuts. Bastard Neo Labour council is for the most part to blame.


Not saying it's the best place to live either but you give it an unfair rap

what about the scallies in brighton? do they have much effect on the quality of life? i heard all the scagheads get sent there to clean up.

 

Brighton is an okey place but my experience is that it only has about three pockets of entertainment areas. call it an entertainment triangle. Though I like the flamboyant scene, there is a much deeper bad scene that many people know about. PM me to find out more.

I would go to Brighton again as it is an okey seaside destination. I didn't want to make it better than it really was so in my infinite fairness, I give it three to four star rating.

The Volks railway tram improvements seem a good positive thing. When I was there, it ran from Brighton to Brighton marina. Small little railtram but had all the characteristics of a classic victorian euphoria, which I do enjoy. I am a bit of a retrophile, so it is a compliment.

Additional: Lewisham is easily compared to Reading for its diversity and cultural vibe. There are massive differences with these two towns,Lewisham and reading but they both have something special in common. Many people say lewisham is as crap as Catford. They are right about Catford but have not realised the changes taking place in lewisham

 

lol. if your looking for high levels of employment try the north east. I would recomend the north of england as the south is expensive and the people arn't usually as friendly. If your coming from america york might be a good place to stop, they've got lots of history, and the city is quite unique. your best bets to get a camper van and drive round the country till you find some where you like

 

True, the south is expensive. In my heart of hearts I wish I could move up north. Maybe Newcastle upon Tyne or Liverpool. I thought about Glasgow but feel I may get dizzy on Glasgow Underground carousel.
Still Glasgow has good ship building history. A lot of the docks yards etc have been closed down HOpe they get revived soon

 

I'd love to go to glasgow, it has the biggest gay culture in europe XD

 

Maybe I might try Glasgow.

 

Brighton is awsome!

 

York is nice, leeds is a bit of a dump, liverpool is ace
