Anything that I have ever read that is considered a "classic" has been one of the worst books I've ever read. every time. I've never enjoyed a "classic"
aw man! i love catcher in the rye... but any story taking place in a northeastern prep school fills me with sweet, sweet nostalgia.
Dean, if you haven't already- read "9 Stories" by the same author. From what you say, it's another book for you. :cheers2:
ughhh and Haunted by Palahniuk. edginess and nastiness for the sake of being edgy and nasty. the concept could have been really cool but. but just ugh.
speaking of j.d salinger - shoeless joe. what a pointless fucking book. it features salinger as a character. and the movie was even worse, field of dreams... terrible. "if you build it, he will come"
I started reading fight club once....it was written more like a screenplay than a book, which made it not very enjoyable. I have read a few similar American authors, one of them in particular was called "The Heart is Deceitful Above all Things". It had chuck's praises on the back. I didn't like that one either. "edginess and nastiness for the sake of being edgy and nasty" is a good way to describe why. I think there is a cult of hardcore American authors and their fans who think its cool and hip to have a very nihilistic approach to story telling. Somehow I think they assume its their duty to inform us that the world is an awful, awful place. Duh? Why are you telling me this.
that's why i feel as though chuck redeemed himself with rant. that book had a genuinely good message and a very interesting, detailed plot. and it wasn't terribly disgusting like some of his other "works"
Screw him. His other books suck, I don't trust him. RAAAARGH!! I will NEVER read that. Everyone likes him, so he must suck. GRRRR!!!!
The Girl who loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King I worship King but the novel appeared forced as If his love of the Boston Red Sox overshadowed all else And irony of irony, Tom Gordon was traded to The Evil Empire (New York Yankee’s) shortly after publication Hotwater
Oo, me too. I hate all Stephen King books because I hate all of his characters and I'm happy when misfortune comes upon them. I hate everything about the way he writes, really.
