I didn't smoke weed until I was 17, and didn't start doing it regularly until I was 18. While I occasionally lament the good times I could have had if I started smoking earlier, I think it's a good thing that I started when I did. I had already formed a fairly complete self image, and because of that I think marijuana was more beneficial to me than it would have been had I been smoking it when my identity was still in that mid-adolescent primordial ooze. I also developed very good study habits during my years of sobriety, and I absolutely love being a living counter example of the stereotype that all stoners are stupid and lack ambition.
The first time I did it was after my 15th birthday and I've been a stoner for about a year now. As long as your responsible and smart with what your doing then I think it could even be good to start at 13. Weed I think is especially good when your in your teen years it helps you through phases and life. I have to deal with a girlfriend that's against mary jane.
I started when I was 16, but recently I found out my little brother tried it once with his buddy. He's 14. So now whenever I go outback to smoke I take him with me. I might stop though and wait 'til he's a little older, I don't want to be the reason he has medical problems. I would be a great thing to talk about at future family parties, and its a great bonding opportunity. "Ah kids, your dad and I would sneak out into your grandmom and grandpop's yard and get baked out of our young minds. Those were the days"
I kind of wish I had waited, I'm sure marijuana brought up my depersonalization. I wonder if it would have effected me the same at an older age? Oh, well.
:smilielol5: . but I totally agree. I don't think there should be a minimum age with reefer. I think being honest with our kids about our weed use and telling them all the connotations of it in an illegal market will help put it into perspective. Cannabis has such amazing abilities to unite people together and reveal commonalities. If we offered our teens a puff or two off our joint after dinner, maybe they wouldn't seek to flee the family to do it with their friends so much because they can find the same feeling of brother/sisterhood and equality at home. My kids would have to somehow convince me that they're mature enough to handle it. In what way I'm not sure. I smoked at age 12 but my parents were only ever really aware of it in the past 4 years or so when I've been semi-open about it. They will always see my lifestyle, philosophies and morality as fundamentally distorted simply because I've used herb before, even if I didn't use it now. Though being open with it as a teen would've precluded me from indulging in the habit, it would have shown my parents that I didn't just fall off the strait and narrow road recently, but that I've always had a taste for weed and the perceived immorality they've seen from me is just me being the same person I'd always been; only now I can be somewhat honest since they can't forbid me from it.
no dude, the younger the better (assuming moderate use). When you're young is when you're most open to being shown who you are inside, and to integrate it into your daily reality. People might puff for the first time in their 30's and though they can easily resume normal living they are often too involved in their life to accomodate the new longings of the inner child they've realized through pot. I don't want to just encourage all kids to smoke weed, but I guess I kind of am. come to think of it, I might be basing too much of what I just typed on personal experience. I have no clue if other adolescents follow a similar pattern
I think it has more to do with when you're mature enough. I think some people would be ready at 14, while others wouldn't be able to handle it at all. It all depends on the person, I guess.
i say everyone is different, so there is no way there can be a set age. i handled weed find in 7th grade, but some probably cant even handle it in 10th. just when ur ready.
as long as you keep your grades up and don't start skipping class to go be "cool" and can afford it by yourself or hang out with responsible friends not lets see how fast we can go while under the influence with no seat belts on and 5 other people in the car
I like to hear that most of you agree that it would be better to start smoking later on. I personally did not start to smoke until I was in my thirties. I tried it once in college but I was never really one who like smoking and I was raised in the Nancy Regan Nazi Anti-Drug world so I was so afraid to try drugs. I also agree that a proper drug education is the key. If you can handle it and are responsible enough then go for it. I personally hope that if it is ever legal that it will be regulated like liquor. 17 or 18 would be a fine age. Even at 16 kids are learning how to deal with life as an adult. I also agree that if parents would educate their kids that this would be a better world. I hope that I will be willing to teach my kids about drugs. If anyone here has read any of my other posts you will know how I feel about kids smoking or do any drugs. I am glad that I did not start until later in life. I wish I had started sooner but I am glad that I did not start as a kid. I think I would be fucked up right now if I did. Happy hunting all.
its different for everyone i think. when the person matures and gets a good understanding of weed. then they can smoke the herb.
