Okay. Something we need to consider about this whole venture:

More than likely, when this camp ground is reserved, it's going to be reserved under the name of one of these great forumers. And we all need to make sure to keep an eye out for one another, and to follow all camping guidelines set forth by the state or whoever owns the land we're going to camp on.

Which means, if there is a quiet hour, we keep it down. Stuff like that. And if someone, anyone, that comes to the gathering breaks any of these guidelines, I don't want any fuss being made if we either banish you to your tent for the night or, if you won't stop breaking rules, we report you to whoever's on duty.

My reasons for wanting to be strict about this is because if this campsite is registered under someone else's name, it's their name that is tarnished by the bad behaviour, making it harder for them to get campsites later on.

So, if someone's got any problems with this, or sees a better way to handle it, add your opinions.

Also, we need to make decisions. As far away as all this is, it's not really that far off at all...SO GET POSTING PEOPLE!

In regards to Holly's post above. ? state park or national forest ? The pros to the state park is running water, flushing toilets, showers - nice for the people with kids and newborns. The pros to the national forest is few rules (and no ranger stepping out of the shadows to enforce them). I guess my main concern is calling it a gathering which implies Rainbow and all that brings with it, when it may boil down to being a camping trip.

Some of the Oregon State Park Rules to consider before we finalize the site:

Pets must be confined by the owner, or on a leash not more than six (6) feet long, and kept under physical control at all times. You´re responsible for removal of all waste and for keeping your pet quiet during campground quiet hours (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.).

Plant life and natural resources may not be picked, cut, removed or mutilated.

Use or operation of noise-producing devices, vehicles, address systems or instruments in a manner disturbing to other visitors is prohibited. Campground quiet hours are from 10:00 pm - 7:00 am.

No person shall use or possess any explosives, fireworks or other substances that could cause harm to persons or resources.

To use your metal detector, you'll need a permit, which is available directly from the park where you wish to use your metal detector.

Most parks post hours at the entrance, and day-use parks are generally open from dawn to dusk. No person, other than authorized personnel, shall enter or remain in any park area between daily closing and opening times as posted.

Possession or use of an alcoholic beverage(s) by any person under 21 years of age is prohibited.
Campfires are only permitted in fire rings or fireplaces provided for such purposes and portions of the beach designated as permissible for fires. No fires shall be left unattended or be permitted to cause damage to park facilities or areas. Portable stoves may be used only in established campsites, picnic areas, and designated beaches where fires are permitted. Users must fully extinguish fires before leaving park.

According to state rules, no person shall dig up, deface or remove any soil, rock, historical or fossil materials, or Native American artifacts or burials.

No person shall hunt, pursue, trap, kill, injure, or molest any wildlife or disturb their habitats.

    a camping trip :) diggit.
I'm in the area so dont ya'll worry much about exactly where, just plan to be in the area the right when. I'll find the just the right spot in plenty of time.
I've got a few spots kinda picked out that would do ok, but im still keeping my ears and eyes open.

Thanks, steffan! Keep us updated regularly...We sorta need directions to exactly where as for some, this is part of a bigger vacation and they might not have access to the hipforums for a couple of weeks beforehand, and for others (like myself) with a baby in tow, I'll need to make sure that I have plenty of rest stops along the way. :)

Oh my goodness... People who know where Oregon is! And there's going to be a gathering there... My state isn't obsolete! =D

But on a more serious note, this sounds interesting. I still have to read through all the posts, but it certainly sounds like fun. ^^

Well, that's great, guys! I think we are back to the main question, where to hold it? It looks like Steffan will find us a place in the woods or we could reserve the Stewart group camping. The Valley of the Rogues doesn't sound like what we are looking for. Does anybody know anything about the other campground?

It's off US101, and maybe that would work. It's on the shore, which would be really nice. :)

What we need now is for everyone interested to mapquest directions to this park from where they live to see if it's feasible from every angle. I don't want to make this too much for any one person. :)

Hmmm, just to Portland, Oregon it's 848 miles, at 14 hours. But, since I'd
have to take the bus, it'd be even longer. Hmmm.
