oh my gosh. that is so horrible:(
what a butthead. i cannot believe him at all. wow.
i had talked with him so many times in the past, also to an ex girlfriend and an ex friend....they both have nothing but contempt for him. but i never in my wildest dreams thought that he was capable of such a horrible thing.
i am so sorry for you that went out. what a complete an utter asshole-ish thing to do.

I'm posting this from a library computer. I'll be back in Portland by Friday at the latest. I'm trying to salvage my vacation with camping, swimming and exploring caves, but as you can imagine my mood isn't what I'd like it to be and I'm not enjoying it so much. I guess we need to put it behind us and move on.

    I'm back.

I am eternally grateful to HippyFreek for warning me while we were still struggling through Portland traffic. We were going to get there pretty late. (Holly, I lost cell phone service right after we turned off I-5. I kept it on for messages and then, of course, the battery ran down. It's a company cell, I wasn't given a car charger.[IMG] I need to buy one).

Anyway, we made the best of a bad situation and camped off of Highway 58 and toured Crater Lake the next day. And I think this campground could work for the next one if we try again. It's first come, first serve for most of the sites. We found a couple of pairs of sites next to each other that are LARGE. You're allowed 14 people to a site and they are only $14 a night and $7 for the extra cars, so not too big of a strain on the wallet. It's next to the Williamette river so there's nice water noise (although it's near some train tracks so you get some train whistle, if that annoys anyone). We never were bothered by the rangers or campground host, who was nicer than most, and we stayed up pretty dang late. Very woody with cedars, so a very good feel about it. And there's a lake nearby to put our boat in and a little swimming hole for the kiddies in a neighboring campground. And it will be there!

You drove home on Saturday!?! Wow, that's quite alot of driving!
Was Fleassy with you? Where did yall stay on Friday night?

edit: I just got my messages. Holly! You were in Oakridge!?! You were just minutes from us where we were camping! I wish I had gotten ahold of you or that you had drove through the campgrounds right off of 58 looking for us. We got there about 10:00 and started setting up camp. Man, that's a bummer, but I'm sooo glad you made it home OK.

Yeah...We stayed in Oakridge friday night. Got there around 10.30ish. Cant believe I was just minutes from you! :( But the road was too dark to keep driving confidently, and I was bone tired.

We headed out Sat morning around 10 and got back to Seattle around 5ish.

I'm glad your trip wasnt a total loss tara!

Gosh, so were we. I started packing at 9:00 AM (Sig other had to work a half day). We left at 1:00 and got to the campground at 10:00. We stopped to eat and buy groceries on the way - that's why it took so long - oh, and the Portland traffic! We bought some wood in Oakridge the next day on the way to Crater Lake. Man, what a weekend that was!

I've decided I don't want to kill Steffan. But rather put him into a car, driving to the tip of South America with three hungry two month olds in the back-seat. And a budget of $100 american.

See how he fairs....I'm slightly bitter, but learned a valuable lesson from all this...

BTW, you remember the name of the campground?

I feel you on wanting to sue. I was really trying to get up here and we ended up being unexpectedly, extremely broke and not able to make it. And I was still trying to make it at the last minute. I was feeling really horrible about not being able to. That is so fucking low, and childish.

That really sucks traveling that far with a baby, and him knowing you guys were doing that, and not caring. Sorry it didn't work out guys. I can't express how pissed I am. I can't afford any festivals this year.

But I'm planning on Sierra hot springs in January, it's not very expensive at all, and they give deals on groups. But I don't know how many people they can house.

There's a campground, very secluded on a scenic route north of Lincoln City that is a couple miles from the beach---50 bucks a night to rent the whole camp ground. You pay ,get the key to the gate and there are fire rings,a big meadow and forest.Nobody comes around to check and the gate is closed so that no un wanted guests can show up.This is info I remember from a few years ago,so I'm going to check on it again to make sure.-----There is also a fairly secluded camp on the lake on the east side of Lincoln City that can be rented--has cabins, camping spots,b-ball hoops, vollyball, ect.I'll check on it also.I believe we can have music at these spots which would be fun for one night. My son's band and other bands he knows would be happy to play.I'm not sure any of this would work out---but I can tell you all--I'm NOT a bullshitter. So I'll check this stuff out and see if something can be put together for this year or next.

Yes, it was Back Canyon on Hwy 58 the I-5 side of Oakridge. What I liked about it was that it is first come, first serve for all but 3 of the sites. Reserving sites requires someone to put up the money way in advance. Of course if someone is willing to do that.......[IMG]

I so sorry you guys were fucked over by Steffan's hoax. I was not able to make this gathering. I was looking forward to reading your posts of the adventures which occurred over the last few days. However, I am looking forward to meeting you guys at a future gathering: hippyfreak, hippyfreak2004, mosphere, newo, boogabaah, tarabelle, etc.

Peace to ya all my new acquaintances.

Well perhaps he might want to come and explain himself...

I doubt he has the balls to come back here anyway.

What possible explanation could he have? That he hates hippies? And as for a little old lady with a walker, what could she possibly have done to him to deserve this?

I just got back to Portland. I still managed to have a decent vacation, all things considered, but I was expecting it to be a lot better. We'll have to try again next summer.

Apparently you didn't read thru all the pages, it didn't happen that year. We were tricked. We tried again the next year but only a few people showed up and we never tried it again. My advice is to try to hook up with other hipforumers at the many summertime concerts, fairs, festivals and gatherings, let people know when and where to meet.
