I am a new gay guy.I stuck up for gay rights even before I knew I was gay.I believe that nobody has the right to bash or dictate how another should live.I now know from experience the unaccaepting people out there. They are the ones that if they ever got a good fucking from a man they would probably go gay too.

Hi. I am female and quite comfortable in my straightness.

I also really enjoy yaoi and slash fiction. I have even written slash (though I make no promise that it was well written). And if you look at many a fan site, you will find that MANY of the writers of MxM fictions and fan fictions are straight women and many of us also buy yaoi. Many of the Japaneses artists who draw yaoi are also chicks. As a straight female, the concept of two hot guys doing hot things is naturally, well, hot.

So of course I want to support gay rights. I may get to watch. However it's also and extension of supporting human rights and just makes sense from that side as well.

But here is the irony: Many straight men who like lesbian porn wont admit that they should support gay rights because that also means supporting a guy's right to F@@@ another guy. And it completely breaks my brain. Sure, part of my motivation is entirely self serving, but somehow I can be ok with girl on girl because I can chose not to watch or participate, but many a man can not make the same distinction.

And as far as bi marriage rights go: Is it any less cheating if a man shags a man behind his wife's back than it is if a man shags a woman behind his wife's back? Is it more justifiable because the man is a closet case than if he isn't if he's cheating? I feel that supporting gay/bi rights also means supporting gay/bi accountability, and if ANY marriage was not open to begin with, then sex with someone who is not the person you married is cheating and gender is irrelevant. In my view, regardless of orientation, sleeping around is still sleeping around and being gay or bi is not a valid justification, closeted or not, any more than alcohol is.

Then again, if a gay person can not get married to the person they love, what is the point of commitment? And unfortunately promiscuity of any kind spreads disease so standing against gay marriage is bad for health given it can be used as a justification for promiscuity much the same way some women used women's liberation.

Yes it is weird. Not everyone does it, you are one of the exceptions. And that makes you awesome.

Very very good of you, thanks!! Just don't be an anti free speech Nazi, it's cool to get heated with true gay hating, but jumping down everyone's throats for every little word or joke will do absolutely no good, in fact it will make everything worse. That's one of the reasons feminism is in a lot of trouble right now, for going way over board on people who really don't deserve that sort of anger(and other reasons).

My buddy says some offensive things sometimes, but my way of dealing with him is patience, and mostly just letting him say what he wants to say. He's just getting better and better with his perspective on LGBT. It's like he'll say something offensive, and I'll calmly in a loving way mention it, or just stay quiet, and then days later he'll apologize and/or just stop doing it. Some people have a lot of bullshit in their heads they need to become aware of, and filter out, but they don't truly hate gay people. My buddy is just that, and I can tell he's very happy that around me he can slip up and say something, without me loosing it on him. I don't make him feel like a criminal for saying something, which in turn makes him think more deeply about this stuff, as opposed to shutting down. Free speech is a beautiful thing, you shouldn't try and silence it or attack it.

Oh, speaking of guys who are comfortable being pro-gay rights, Harry Potter started a foundation for this cause with some of that money and fame he got making 8 ridiculously successful movies.

Does that make him strange or gay? Or just socially responsible?

How dose that work? Celebrity supports gay rights now. People organize and get gay rights. Party.

Or the gay rights movement can be total snobs on who they will admit to letting help them and shoot themselves in their own foot in the proses.

Daniel Radcliffe. He will probably stop being Harry Hotter in my head when I finally watch him in a movie that's not Harry Potter. If it helps, Tom Cruise is still Lestat in my head most days, but that's because I just don't like him in other roles and want to pretend they don't exist.

Allen Rickman has made me happy on several films, and George Takei was in Heros so I bother to remember those actors names.

But the point is I looked it up when the Facebook pic started to circulate to find out if it was just a fan with photo shop or if the actor actually had something to do with it. He did, so I shared.

Yes yes yes. Lestat is probably my least favorite role of his, but I suppose it also depends on what generation you come from.

Princeton can use a man like Joel, amiright?

There's an awful lot of straight guys hanging out in a gay forum, aren't there? Hmmm.

Just kidding, I'm straight too. Hip forums has a pretty broad range of stuff going on, I can't help but click through all of them.

I am responding just to this thread title...and hope I'm not coming where I'm not supposed to. Its just that I am straight...and I have a gay brother married to his male spouse.

My brother came out to me years ago (1982), and even before then I had a very good friend (female) in high school that was gay but my foolish, naive ass didn't realize that...then. :) What I'm getting to is that my feelings never changed for either one of them when they told me they were gay. I continued to love my brother and remain old friends with my very attached-to-her-woman friend.

Not only do I "stand up" for those that love the same sex, I cannot comprehend why people, much less the gov't, thinks its okay to dictate whom one is supposed to love or be attracted to. (We can also note Russia here. ;) )

In this awful old world where love is just a word most people use to describe stories or others, I think whoever you love as an adult that loves you back, you should grasp and hold onto that love where ever you find it.

    my .02 worth

Yeah, see, that was 32 or so years ago now, and yet you are still doing it.

You get what that sounds like right?

Not that it matters, I'm sure your brother is used to it...but three decades? It does give away a lot
