So far, I'm the only promoter around here, but I've got more than a clue how to do it. As I've said over and over, that is the key. Advertising, getting the message out. Hooking up with others, particularly those who already have a following is something that could go far... I know there is alot of luck involved, but just one or two of the right connections in any endevor can launch you a long way...
No kids in school! I got them out of that hell hole a long time ago! The schools in these parts are not inclined to lend a hand to anything related to "hippies". And, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I AM one, obviously. I've got a reputation. Famous or infamous, again depending on whose opinion you get. At least I've made no obvious enemies!! But I AM well known. However, ONE of my ideas involves holding concerts in "acceptable" places, and doing MUCH advertizing among the highschool crowd. It's the next generation, and they are only a couple years from being able to have a real say in what goes on. Plus alot of them keep their parents in line!

I think the "get out and vote" thing is just a pacifier at this point. It always ends up that you are voting for the lesser of 2 evils, and for starters, I ain't into votin' for evil. And supposing a miracle happened and all the heads got out and voted? The powers that be would see what was happening and simply fix the election. We ALL just need to keep our opinions, ideas, and desires out in the public eye. George and his buddys seem to be squirming in their chairs already. Keep these hateful bastards dancing. No one person can change the world of politics at this time. I think that position is reserved for someone they say is coming back soon.... But we can keep enough heat under their asses that they could fall.
I see it all the time on forums in various places. There is always somebody out there who just feels the need to be disagreeable. They usually are folks who have spent a great deal of time trying to build up their position and power, the appearance of authority. But if someone comes along who can see the whole picture and persistantly keeps working at them, questioning them, forcing them to explain themselves and their position, etc., they eventually end up showing their true colors, lose their mind, freak out and do something REALLY stupid for the whole world to see...

MY problem is that in responding to my ideas, folks keep saying things like "can YOU do it?..." or "do YOU think YOU can...? "How do YOU expect to...?". And THAT is the problem. Everybody assumes it's up to someone else. In my life, I do ALOT of stuff, and so people just assume it's MY job, and they leave it up to me. They see people who have energy, optimism, and enthusiasm and instead of helping or joining in, they sit back, and take a big sigh of relief that THEY don't have to do it. The bottom line is if we ALL did stuff in a certain direction, we'd get alot further.

Heavy and Profound! It seems we are all proposing and debating ideas of what kind of seeds to plant in preparation of a future we are unsure of.
This forum, this thread, and specifically Earthmother gave me the inspiration to initiate and try to promote my idea for HELP. It is an idea I have shamelessly promoted and received some amount of encouragement and negative response to. (see Smoke Signals: more shameless promotion! :) ) As I have come to realize, shameless_heifer is part of GoodStock effort. I applaud her and earthmother for their work, and I hope to get involved, or at least participate at the event. Who else is currently involved in some type of effort or knows of something worth sharing with the rest of us?
Armageddon is a biblical concept that if you embrace 1) Hasn't began yet, and 2) suggests that it really does not matter what we do, the future is already predetermined and can not be changed or influenced.

By embracing the Armageddon prophecy or biblical view, one is more apt to resolve themselves to inaction and apathy. Which is one reason why Christians have traditionaly avoided involvement in politics or radical activism; however, early in the Christian movement a sect of Christians were chastised by church leaders for just sitting back and waiting for the end to come.

I think that regardless of your spiritual beliefs, activism vs resolve is something each person deals with. For myself, resolve leads to hopelessness. If I have no hope, then I simply accept my fate and do the best I can while waiting for the end. That is the condition I found myself in before I joined this forum, and the end was something I found myself desperately desiring if even by my own hand.

Finally, with regard to voided37 and cooloner, sorry I got you two mixed up. The apology I gave in the previous post is as appropriate and sincere for one as it is for the other, and for anyone I may have offended with my brash and bold entrance into this thread. I agree, our greatest enemy is that which seeks to divide us.

If we were go by what the bible says, then revelations has come and passed, we are in the last days. All the prophsies have come to pass. And The Times They Are A Changing

Come gather round people where ever you roam
and admit that the waters around you have grown
and that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
if your time to you is worth saving
then you'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone
for the times they are a changing

Come congressmen, senetors, please heed the call
dont stand in the doorway don't block up the hall
for he that is hurt will be he who has stalled
    there's a battle outside and it's raging
it will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
for the times they are a changing

Come writers and critics who prophasize with your pen
and keep your eyes wide the chance won't come again
and don't speak to soon for the wheel's still in spin
and there's no telling who that it's naming
for the loser now will be later to win
for the times they are a changing

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
and don't critize what you can't understand
your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
your old road is rapidly aging
please get off the new one if you can't lend a hand
for the times they are a changing

Some do things on a grand scale, some do a little each day. Some do both. It's in the way you do business, the way you treat your friends, the way you treat your enimies, the way you treat nature. It's one big movement. One way or another peace will prevail.

Well, seeing as how you don't make any sense to me, you'll have to explain how I'm dead wrong in your humble opinion, and how the future of the earth depends on it?

It seems to me that anyone who is willing to put a great deal of positive energy into making the world a little bit better place can't be "dead wrong". And if it's "dead wrong" then how in the world DO you help??? And how in the world is my being "dead wrong" going to negatively effect the future of the earth?????? You got a problem with music and makin' people happy????

Why won't I follow YOU? What are YOU doing to help?

    Come on now, be serious.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, and if it's THAT bad, then just stay home and keep yer door locked! So they can't GITCHA!!!!

You said it all ...all i wanted to explain to innocent fresh citizen...naive enough to try to find peace somewhere on earth... but lesson 1... our Vallahla is in our own mind...peace is deeply in ourselves... it's a loooong way to learn how to catch him... myself i still a long way to find the treasure hidden in my heart...

In fact the initial hippie movement is born in a colision of different roads ...it's very rare in history... to have so many important things happening in a short time...(i post a few month before that there where more than 20 important events and facts in a short time)
Naturally The Viet Nam war was a reason for some to fight together or dream together of a better place where our body and mind will dance in peace and harmony...
The Baby Boomers are long gone... not enough young ...too many old people...how can u change things with more old than young people...
But the history is a wheel and our time will come one day when the crossroads of events will be back ...a new chance for a revolution will born...but we can start right here to experiment new way of life in community ...and be the freenovators for one of the next decades... or the embryo to our children children children's next revolution....

why do we think we were so special? From day one the world has been in constant revolution. In the grand scheme we ain't squat. There has always been "good" people and "bad"people. They have all changed the world.Hippie didn't just happen and all of a sudden things were good. This has been a constant struggle.Hell we haven't even figured what "good"is yet.
You gotta keep on keeping on.
We"ll get there if our egos don't get in our way.

One day a woman brought her child to Ghandi and asked if he would tell the child to stop eating sugar because it was bad for him. Ghandi said that he would but before he could, the woman would have to bring the child back to him in three days. Three days later she returned with the child. Ghandi looked at the boy and admonished him to stop eating sugar because it was bad for him. The woman was puzzled and asked why she had to wait for three days. Ghandi replied, "Before I could tell the child to stop eating sugar...I had to stop eating sugar myself."

I can't tell anyone else how to change the world or what they should do. I only know what I can do and what I do do on a daily and on going basis to make my world a better, cleaner and safer place. The valley of Megiddo awaits a different place and time, and yet we all face our personal Armageddons one at a time as we personally face the reaper.
What did happen that stopped us from changing the world??? The answer is nothing. We DID change the world...in masse and individually. Did EVERYTHING change??? No, because then as now we couldn't agree what "EVERYTHING" was.
Some day a long time from now a different generation or a different people will look back on this day and describe it as "the golden age." I just want to make sure that there is a world with people at that time to be able to look back at us.

I found myself at a friends house last night and was talking to the "dad" of the family. He's almost 60 and he runs the local internet "alternative" news. He gets out alot more than I, to political rallys, govt. meetings etc., and he's a county commissioner too...
Anyhoo, he's always looking for someone to talk to, and he began a conversation with me, out of the blue, that was exactly what we've all been talking about here. He finds that this distaste of the way things are going is pretty prevalent no matter what group of folks you are in. What this means is that we have alot of people on "our side". People who weren't there in the 60's. The one thing we really need to NOT do at this point in time, that we DID in the 60's, is to NOT alienate these other groups of people. The bluehaird old ladies, the conservative businessmen, Joe the Farmer from down the road, the straight folk from the church in town. We all need each other. This can be quite challenging some days, believe me, but if you can at least make enough of a good impression on someone so that they'll talk to you and listen in return, then you have an ally. Back in the day we were all about being radical and rebellious, and if you weren't a hippy, you weren't cool. Nowdays, there is alot of "cool" in an awful lot of people who ain't "hippies"! These folks are in a headspace where they are ready to start really learning some of the basic concepts of kindness, compassion, brotherhood.... I know, everybody knows about that stuff, right? But knowing something and really FEELING it art two different things. But I believe the general population is beginning to be ready to start REALLY FEELING. Approval for the pres and the entire way the govt. is doing things is at a RECORD LOW. YAY!!! That means that alot of people are waking up.

People are all upset and worked up about the state of the world. And everybody reacts in a different way. Everybody's talking, some are doing. Unfortunately the pres and his henchmen are some of the do-ers. I suppose what they do is THEIR response to the state of the world. THEIR response is one that would be made by someone who is SCARED. Even animals as small as a mouse, when frightened, will lash out at the percieved threat. The people in the whitehouse are some of the most terrified folks on the planet!!!
Myself, I'm excited. I feel that we are on the verge of SOMETHING, and it'll be big whatever it is, and this will create change. When everybody has exausted the list of all stupid things they can think of, the only thing left is to go towards the good. The guy I was talking to last night, he said that somehow things just FEEL DIFFERENT. Different than ever before in his 60 years. More different even than during the Vietnam War. I think this is a GOOD thing.

OK Cooloner, how about if you just quit picking apart my posts, exagerating and finding fault with everything I say, and maybe you won't seem so abraisive? In return I'll do the same for you...

Funny, I had a similar conversation with some friends a few months back, we came to the conclusion that something BIG is going down, you can feel it, and to some it might seem scary, but to me it's downright inspiring!

But things are different today than they were back in, say, the Vietnam era. We now live in a culture that's more fragmented, people feel isolated and alienated. This is how "the establishment" wants us to feel, because if they can divide us, they can conquer and control us. Too bad for "them" it's not working...

It is truly interesting to have watched the progression of this thread over the last week since I first joined in.

When I got here I was looking for inspiration. I started talking about "getting something started". earthmother provided the inspiration I needed by posting her idea to use festivals/peace concerts as a means for promoting the message; I posted something like a resume and offered my assistance. Then I was inspired to do something more. To formulate a message of action. HELP (more shameless promotion :) ) Over the period of the next couple of days I didn't hear anything back from earthmother, but I did get some positive feedback along with a great deal of negative response to my idea. So as not to generate more negative response here, I started a new thread inviting folks to find out more about my idea if they wanted to. In short order, that thread was also overrun by negativity, I was asked to move my thread because this is somebody elses garden, and now it has turned into a promotion for GoodFest by the very one who shot my idea down in the first place. So, I created my own garden to promote my idea in. (60sbaby Forum) I am in the process of building a website also. Now don't get me wrong, I applaud the GoodFest effort and am not opposed to it as a means to do something. I'm glad that perhaps I have inspired a few folks to actively promote their own vision and what they are doing. Which is what I encourage everyone to do.

Listen, not everyone will agree with what I think is a good idea, and that is cool. But we should spend more time supporting eachother's right to have an idea, and focus on the positives of it rather than shooting it down because we have a different idea, or none at all.

Time can be an enemy as well as a resource. A sense of urgency can lead to apathy, or cause us to move to fast. I have been inspired to work towards something positive through my participation here, and realize that it will take time and dedication to see it through. I am on board with GoodFest if any assistance is needed from my region. At the least, I look forward to being there.

And remember, an idea is only as good as the action it generates.

I admire your cynicism, Coolner, though I don't necessarily agree. Perhaps the power in numbers philosophy works if applied in the right realm, like as I described in an earlier post, hit 'em where it hurts them the most, the pocketbook.

    What philosophy would you propose?
