I had "Betsy" a 1962 split screen VW campervan. Took out all the immaculate original interior and put it in the attic..........We (me, the dog and 3 kids) had the best times of our lives in that buggy...... Ooooooh such happy memories. She was multi colored cause I put anti rust primer and never finished the job...on top of other paint jobs that never got finished over her years. We put candles on her dashboard for light whilst camping and in pub car-parks whilst friends dropped in....... Her clutch cable shortened to fit with cotton reels and umpteen washer's...her excelerator cable at one point had to be tied with a shoestring..... But through all, and for all her years, and all her miles, she never let us down...... I sold her for ten times what I bought her for to a garage, who for money let her rot for about 15 years....bumped into a guy five years ago who said his brother bought her, seems she just finally disolved into rust....like me..... Enjoy and keep her going as long as you can ! They don't make them like that anymore...! .
yeah i bought her out of the junker. it was last driven in 86. had to weld about 7 peices of metal to her, completley rebuilt the front axl and spindles and steering and brakes. had to take a good eighth inch of rust off the bottom rewired her, built many motors for her etc, etc. still glad i got rid of her though, i miss my 76 the most out of them all.
squarebacks are my dream car, I saw one for sale a few months ago, but it was in real bad shape, I'd be so happy with one though, they seem pretty perfect
squarebacks are the way to go. they are alot still out there, and nobody wants any money for them. i hope it stays that way. i cant even find a basketcase bus anymore for under 1000, and ive sold plent of nice running good lookin buses for what people ask for a bus with no motor. square backs are nice, you can even find running ones for under 500 bux
