Was weed better in the '60s?

I am 64 (for 3 more weeks) and the pot was sometimes real good and sometimes just medium good. I got sober in 1981 and haven't smoked any pot since; just because I have been pretty high just from the sober trip, especially with some good jam bands a playin' so I can't compare it to what we have today. But I do know it better be better because at our price you could smoke as much as you wanted and stay pretty stoned. The Acid was definitely better.

My first joint was in 1964 and up until 1968 we used to get a kilo for 25 bucks in TJ and 20 bucks if we wanted to drive the dirt road down to Ensenada. Living in Venice CA I had a friend that still got the big ounces (no scales needed) for 10 bucks through the 70's. They did begin to charge a few bucks more if the pot was a little better, like Panama Red, Acapulco gold, Colombian or Hawaiian. But we did have my favorite 'Honey Oil' of which 2 drops in a sealed glass pipe could get 4 people passing and later that day 4 more people passing with probably enough to get stoned when you got back home from those 2 drops.

We also would place some pot in a spoon with a drop or 2 of the honey oil and heat the bottom of the spoon and it would go right into the pot. Then you could just roll a joint or use a pipe. At a birthday party in San Francisco nobody had any pot and I had some honey oil so I put it in some tobacco and dead Jerry Rubin (we also have the live Jerry Rubin) Phil Ochs and me got real stoned but it tasted like crap. I teased them that I couldn't believe a party in San Francisco had no pot. (Too many Berkeley Intellectuals there I guess.)

I started smoking in the late 70's and smoked the whole 80's decade then quit until about 2008 so my comparison is from that time frame.

I'm now close to the southern boarder to give you a geographical reference.

99% of all I smoked back then was about the same quality (with seeds). People talked of Hawaiian and Alcopolco? Gold and stuff but it was rare!

Today's high end weed is much easier to get and it is waaaaay more potent than the common weed of the 80's. The high grade weed of today is more often than not, locally and hydrophonically grown.

IMO, the reason for today's better grades of weed is a proliferation of information with respect to better cultivation techniques and the availability of high quality seeds.

Now there's a radical idea.

From Germany: In the 70's the weed was here a bit stronger than Tobacko,the Dope you got was a lot better and a very good Sortiment. I used to smoke Dope since i was 14 and now im 45 and prefer to smoke Weed. Greets from Germany

 

I was totally stoned back then but I do remember more variety. Also there were thai sticks & alot of hash. I cant relate to this high grade shit available 2day. Just a fyi... shouldn't refer to mary jane as habitual afterall its not a drug,It gives mary jane a bad name... Decent pot was $20. an oz....But on another note drugs were safer back then, qua
luads, mda hey,,,,but i learned never do blotter acid, some unhealthy rat poison shit. and 10 years of flash backs..

 

I would imagine today's pot would be substantially more potent for the reasons you gave in op
