You guys don't seem to get it at all, talking about technical skills and stuff. Jimi Hendrix is so special because of the way he makes his guitar sounds, very unique and soulful.
I can't call a guitarist who can play everyone's tunes very well the best. It's about creating something of your own and let it still sound good and that's what Hendrix does in a sublime way. Why else would so many people rate him as the best?
Guitar players like Malmsteen may have better technical skills, but who cares if the sounds doesn't move you? Malmsteen does that rarely with me.

Don't get me wrong, I like unoriginal guitarplaying as well :tongue:. But it just have to sound nice, do something with you. Like move you, make you wanna dance or rock out.

 

How is that racist? Hell, one of my favourite bands is called Band Of Gypsys, you idiot. Django Reinhardt was a gypsy.

You called Petrucci a gypsy in a derogatory manner, and you even called him it to describe that Petrucci is "crap", by your own words. That, in itself, is used as a racial slur.

Not only this, but your "Band of Gypsys" isn't actually a name of a band. It's the name of a live album by Hendrix, at the Fillmore. In fact, none of the band are even Gypsies anyway.

 

I've never disputed the fact that Hendrix wasn't good. Hell, he's one of my favourite artists! But the fact is that if he was to come around in our time, he wouldn't be successful - atleast not to the extent he is nowl. It's because he came out in the 60s, with this new and fresh sound, that made him what he is. He's an innovator of the guitar, but certainly not a God, and by no means the best; even in his day.

I don't even want to answer the question if he's a god or not. All that idolizing is pathetic in my opinion. But I do think he is the best guitarist I've heard. It takes more then technical skills to be the best.

there a so many better guitar players (technical, creative, charismatic).... like Eric Clapton or George Harrison...

Band Of Gypsys was the name of the band, actually - Hendrix, Cox and Miles. It was also a live album from the Fillmore East in NY.

Whatever, that's not the point if they actually were a band. The fact is that you used them in your own defence to say that you couldn't possibly be racist because you like them...What are you talking about?! That has no reflection on your views.
