    For sure

The dude just went crazy and outlandish lol

The Doors were one of the best groups in the forging of psychedelic rock, as were The Beatles and Pink Floyd

    Definitely agree.

Listen to "The End". That poetry is all Jim's and is a masterpiece. Jim did a lot of reading and was definitely a talented poet and singer, too. I feel like he could have developed even more had he lived longer and not allowed alcohol to destroy him.

The thing with Jim was that the media sensationalized him. They portrayed him as a drunkard self-absorbed asshole. (look at the Oliver Stone Doors movie, for example) From what I've read, he was actually a thoughtful, sensitive, deep and caring individual. That's why he tried to get away in Paris, and he was really upset when the media and government turned on him for the Miami exposure incident. (Of which there is no evidence he did that at all.)

On a spiritual level, I've read Jim had spirits that ended up being demons that turned against him, and the only way he felt he could shut them up was through alcohol.

Some people may not like The Doors, but don't judge Jim when you don't know who he really was. The other Doors members enjoyed working together with him. His story is a sad one.

not everything he wrote was mind blowing, but alot of his writings painted vivid murals of what he was trying to have the readers imagine physically and emotionally. i think that makes him an amazing poet. but he was an even better songwriter.

I think he had good lyrics for his music, but the straight up poetry that he wrote? Utter rubbish, in my opinion.

Poetry authored by Chuck Norris would make the devil himself sob in depression and introspect.

Maybe you took from it what he wanted you too...

I've read The American Night...it was amazing..his words are deep..I'm a vocalist and I write my own lyrics, I try to write like him, and Hendrix, but I'm more direct, not lyrical...I tell stories with my words, but it's pretty cut and dry kind of style.

    - Poetry is subject to the individual's taste
Be it a 'renowned' or unpublished writer of verse - appreciation of the Art can vary in degree though "If the feeling comes upon one like a tidal wave" then the main feeling one should have is Enjoyment wherever it comes from or whoever it is that says it :)
