And now the Georgians are now calling for a ceasefire, but it looks like they're losing Ossetia no matter what. This situation and now bombs going off in China is casting a rather dark shadow over the Olympics.
Russia is obviously in the "wrong" here, and I say this as a Russian. They are directly targeting civilian populations. This is terrible, yet nothing is going to be done about this. Georgia needs to surrender and end the bloodshed. By listening.
I agree, but Georgia isn't exactly in the "right" either. They started the whole thing by basically signing a ceasefire with the Ossetia separatists and then launching a sneak attack. I was watching Russia Today, and they're still referring to their soldiers there as peacekeepers. Like most deep regional conflicts that go on for decades there's no black and white, just shades of grey. I just read that the Georgians are pulling out of S. Ossetia. So now we'll get to see whether Russia will stick to their peacekeeper role. I'll be holding my breath.
I`m from Russia and I can say, that Russia simply protects the citizens. Georgia the first has begun war.. For two hours prior to the beginning of attack of the city in South Ossetia the president of Georgia Michael Saakashvili has declared, that any military actions would not accept. But all has appeared differently. The city is practically destroyed. This all had begun at night when inhabitants were sleepping. They had started to be hidden in refuges. That`s why Russia has gone on such measures, because 9 of 10 inhabitants of South Ossetia are Russian citizens. Why all people in the world now is against of Russia??? There is a genocide. But a genocide not against citizens of Georgia, AGAINST citizens of South Ossetia. The Georgian militarians throw bombs in those places where people is hidden, move tanks of little children. This all is from lips of the inhabitants of Ossetia. Now they try to run away from there to Russia, where Russian people, doctors help them, give them places, where they can sleep and eat... It is So much wounded men and killed, that it would be desirable to cry. And if Russia is guilty, by your words WHY Georgia speaks about deducing the armies from Ossetia, and during the same moment tanks of Georgia continue to go there?!
You don't have the right to talk about it as you're all knowing participant...If your country has never been in war during your life (which I'm honestly hoping for), you can't understand that there are not always distinct divides to bad ones and good ones, things are not as simple as that and none of us actually knows what's going on there.... That's why I see talking about it just as ignorant blabbing....
I'd say Russia is in the wrong in the fact it should've showed much more restraint and then started attacking places far outside the zone of conflict, but Georgia definitely set off the spark that caused this, which is why I find it hilarious how most media outlets here are blaming it on Russia.

I can't believe that people are blaming Russia and claiming that Russia is the aggressor here. Saakashvili attacks South Ossetia, a region with mostly Russian citizens, clearly targeting the civilians. (And this is after Georgia's army has been trained and equipped by the US government) He wanted to see how far he could push Russia, with Putin at the Olympics and Medvediev on vacation and afraid to act and move the troops in soon enough to actually save the South Ossetia's now destroyed capital. But Saakashvili didn't expect the extent of Russia's retaliation, so he ran back to the United States pleading for help. All this talk about constitutional integrity is ridiculous, there was a ceasefire agreement in 1992 that Saahashvili broke and he needs to take responsibility for his actions. Also, I highly doubt that this started out or has anything to do with Russia showing off its power or reclaiming Georgia.. It's not surprising that the US media will present Russia as the big bad wolf (when did they EVER present Russia as the good guys??? and all because Russia will never bow down to the US and become one of its puppets)
