They play by rules the old retailers weren't allowed to. The older retailers paid legislated wages and abided by safety laws and had full time employees, they sold domestic products which had to undergo strict requirements. It was almost never a fact that their goods poisoned the consumer. Ever wonder why the rise of Walmart coincided with the Clintons?

well if walmarts and targets are built like fortresses... which now that you mention it - I can easily see... then those are the places that I think we would want to occupy and use against military-police in the event of a fascist overthrow of government. If I had an entire wal-mart at my disposal there's no telling what kind of damage I might inflict, and I'd have enough food in there too!

Wal-Mart is where 6 cents of every US dollar is spent at Wal-Mart. It is cooperations like Wal-Mart that own the government because they have so much money, they control everything.

ohh how I loathe walmart. We have one of those super giant walmarts complete with a gas station, mcdonalds and an auto area for oil changes and tires. It's ridicuolos really. The parking lot is so big our entire town could park their cars, rv's, bikes and would still only occupy half of it. They cleared out a huge section of woods to build this place, it was the saddest day I can remember. I live in a nice small town, named tree city usa several years in a row, then wal-mart came along. The place is always filthy, inside and out. Gunk caked on top of gunk. I'm guessing they don't pay the employees enough to give a shit?

The poor plants they sell in the outdoors area, I want to rescue all of them! They look like they are never watered or moved in/out of the sun. They are brown and the leaves are tattered. Most of them are just shoved into a corner. It's such a waste, no one is going to buy them like that so just get thrown away?

Also, the poor poor fish. The LAST time I went to wal-mart I stopped by to look at the fish. I was horrified at what I saw. They had those poor Beta's stacked on the shelves and half of them were dead. The tanks were nasty and also had many dead fish floating in them. It looked like no one was even assigned to take care of that section. I had to restrain myself from picking up a net and cleaning out them out.

The place is so big they can't even take of it.

    Shop Local! Damn the man!

Very true.---To add I notice some people say they shop at Walmart because the prices are lower. The prices are not really lower anymore, the only exception being Walmarts own generic brand which covers a few items.I agree Walmart sucks and the other big chains like Target etc. are just as bad. They also are unsightly obnoxious places.I never patronize those places anymore.--Good news a few years ago Walmart wanted to open a place in my neighborhood--we made sure they failed.NO Walmart anywhere near my neighborhood.:)

You know, you can also find a nice selection of firearms at walmart. Come to think of it, I don't know where else I'd want to be in the instance there is a war.

But otherwise I try to avoid walmart as much as possible. They insist on lower prices, drive production overseas, are taking away from the American economy, and are generally just bad juju.

it's like every step along the way they're messing something up.

This is just me but.... I don't find it hard to not shop at Wal-Mart. I just don't go there. It's not that hard. I think that a key part of stopping shopping at Wal-Mart, though, was an overall decision to reduce the amount that I consume as and individual. I was never much of one for shopping and spending, but aside from necessities it actually felt good to cut down on it even more.

Wal-Mart isnt all that bad, They are actually auditing the companies in different countries, where they get their products from, and making sure they are providing safe and fair workplace treatment, as well as environmental audits. So.. Yeah, think about that
