Sorry, I'm not a theologian, I was talking of the actual lived religion of those who called themselves Christians. Frankly, I don't have time to look up the reference, so discount it if you like. However, in a book I just read for a class, it mentioned that "Not until the ninth century do records of distinctly Christian marriage liturgies appear, and the Roman Catholic Church did not insist upon Christian ceremonies until the late sixteenth century" (James B. Nelson, Between Two Gardens, 1983, p.131). That means that all those converted European Christians were often practicing the local (formerly pagan) traditions in regard to marriage arrangements. The Church was not particularly concerned about this, regardless of what your bible says. You know, kinda like how now most Christians would have a real problem with anyone stoning someone to death for adultery, regardless of that their bibles say. That's one of the major problems I've seen with the whole idea of waiting for marriage. Especially in our culture, where we are inundated with sexual images but expected to wait at least until our mid 20s to marry (instead of being sold to the highest bidder by the age of 16), I don't see how anyone who has a positive view of sexuality could possibly wait. Instead, I see people do as an acquaintance of mine did -- get married at 18 to a girl he had only known for 6 months because she was waiting for marriage and he was horny.
You're right lace, we've inadvertantly hijacked this thread... Huck, you will NEVER convince me that the bible is a book worth following. And I will never convince you that you are being a blind lemming. Points have been made and I'm sure that everyone knows where to go if they need more information. So, I agree to disagree and respectfully decline to continue this conversation here. *tips hat*
Shes correct. Abraham(peace be upon him) is our father, Muhammed(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) decended from this man and the religion he preached was the same religion Abraham(peace be upon him) teached - clear monotheism. Back to the subject. Why shouldn't one wait, its a purer way of handeling lusts as well as "unwanted distractions".
So, this is true for the rest of us, then. None of us can live perfect lives, and sinning is expected. God loves us anyway...... As for lace, You need to do what you think it right. Personally, I wouldn't buy a car without a test drive.
