I don't think this is true at all. Not having enough volunteers is a good indication that this country is not in support of this war.

But I completely agree with the rest of your post.

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation."

Well maybe he could slim down some of the fat bureaucratic paychecks. Or who knows. He certainly wont have trouble recruiting special forces, but paying for them...who knows. But do you think a draft is free?

But it is silly to dismiss a draft under Bush as political suicide, and then call it more likely under Kerry, who would actually be up for another term if he wins this election.

Did you watch the first debate?

Kerry wants to send MORE men to Iraq, while Bush wants to start pulling them out.

Who do YOU think will institute a draft?

Kerry said he wants 40,000 more new troops to Iraq to help bring some of the troops currently in Iraq home. He didn't say exactly how he would get the 40,000. Any way you look at it, other countries aren't going to want to commit troops and money after Bush snubbed them all.

Something will have to change the next four years regarding the army. Either they will have to attract more people into the army, get other countries to commit troops, or scale back these ventures in Iraq and any other invasions they might have been planning in the Mideast. It can't go on like it is now.

The only thing I've heard recently is that tour of duties may be scaled from one year down to 6 months.

It's going to be hard for the government to get potential recruits to believe anything good will happen after the way the Bush administration has treated troops, especially the guard.

People won't put up with another draft to fight a foregin confortation. If there were a domestic attack I believe that local (State) militias would get plenty of volunteers to protect domestic security.

As far as the "Draft"? I think we made our point using Canada back then. It's looking pretty damned good today too!

Either way it's not free, but you can people you're forcing to fight alot less then those you are trying to get to sign up on their own. And it would be political suicide for either party if a draft was passed under either of them, but I believe Kerry would be more likely to try, the Dems already introduced a draft bill, whos 2 of it's original 4 sponsers diddn't even vote for it.

That was obviously nothing but a lame scare tactic. Aren't politicians just great?!

Well we the people voted for them, so we really can't complain much about them.

Technically nobody voted for Bush, he stole this election and there is a lot of evidence that leads to that conclusion.

No matter who wins the election, a draft will come if we run out of troops. The pentagon and others have been saying we need more troops, we've been pulling them out of south korea, pulling them off U.S. Coast Gaurd, holding soldiers there for longer than they signed up for, etc. It doesn't matter WHO is in control. If we run out of options, it's either pull out or draft. That's just the way it is.

nah I doubt there's ever going to be a draft and it would be insanely fucked up if they deny affir. action rights to women yet include them in the draft. If they drafted I would go get pregnant or move.

err, women already get affirmative action...but why should that have anything to do with being drafted?

People who are glad that JFK won Illinois, shouldn't complain about Bush winning Florida.

American politics has a long and full history.
