Thank you!! It's something I wanted for a long time. It feels good to actually be doing it.

Saaammee. I just dont really get it. And to be perfectly honest all the subgenres of EDM confuse me because it all sounds the same to me. I couldnt tell you the difference between house and techno

Every once in a while i'll find some EDM I like...but it happens very rarely. That's just one bandwagon i've never been able to jump on

Order is definitely important because 'Murica. But House music actually started in Chicago. "Raves" were popularized by the UK though.

The Subgenres sound really distinct on Ecstasy and/or played really loudly. House and Drum n bass probably sound about as distinct as Classic Rock and Metal. House and Techno are more similar.

Some of the subgenres attempt to encapsulate the feelings the music attempts to capture ( Trance, Happy Hardcore ) some of them signify elements of the music ( Progressive House, Dubstep ).

Here are some examples which I think are fairly extreme:

    House usually features what is called "4-to-the-floor" where you can count 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 -3 - 4 and so on with the kick drum, easy to dance to.
It is set to a BPM which people whom have transformative experiences with the music like to point out is said to be about the same as the fetal heart rate.

Drum n bass utilizes a syncopated beat, higher bpm and has a faster, frantic feel to it. It's more like the feeling of technology overwhelming the senses, more abrasive.

What kind of music do you like?

Can I send you some of my favorite edm tracks (if I have anything I think you might like, based on your answer to my above question)?

Orbital and Underworld are two of my favourite dance bands.

This is a great concert to watch under the influence:

I just have to take a minute and brag (I've done this before at this site) about my boxed set of never played clear vinyl Turtle 45's.
They'd be worth about $150.00 if I hadn't opened the box years ago.

    [IMG] [IMG]
Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman formed The Turtles in 1965 and had several hits, one "Happy Together" knocked the Beatles Penny Lane off the top of the charts in 1967. They were associated over the years with Warren Zevon, Mike Nesmith, Dean Torrence, Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn, Ray Davies, T. Rex, Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen, the Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake. If any of those names ring a bell.

They joined Frank Zappa for many years appearing under the names The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie or Flo and Eddie. I saw them perform stupid tricks on stage before appearing with Zappa when he was recording his 200 Motels album.

Unfortunately I saw them twice since then and each time forgot to bring this boxed set with me to get autographed, but I did get an autographed picture! Flo or Eddie I forget which one, I think it was Eddie, told me he remembered the boxed set.

    I'm always open to suggestions

I'm pretty open minded about music and dont stick to one genre so might be easier to tell you what I dont like lol

Dislikes include: Jazz, metal with growly vocals (i like instrumental metal or when the frontman actually sings), most EDM that i've heard, and all modern pop music, and new pop country. And 80s hair metal, blech

I like classic rock, 80s new wave, 2000s indie rock, 90s grunge and alternative, hip hop, folk rock, bluesy rock, classic country and some of the new country coming out that sounds like classic country, punk, opera....and ...anything really, except my aforementioned dislikes

And I do like some electronic music,..like..4 electronic groups lol. they arent typical edm music though. Hippie sabotage (shout out to GB! I went deep down the rabbit after he posted them in the listening to thread), Postal Service (part of that 2000s indie rock thing), DNTel (collab'd with all my favorite 2000s indie rockers). And daft punk of course, lol

Sorry this answer is ridiculously long and specific

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind sending me a set from you?

I can send you a bunch of my favorite songs right now, if you'd like. I don't have any recent recorded sets, though.

    Are you on spotify?

My friend brought over his record player and three boxes of records and we had a ton of fun going through the boxes and listening to music. I felt like a kid at Christmas. 20181223_014405.jpg IMG_20181222_233655_003.jpg

Spend the money on an audio technica or something that isn’t going to drag on the vinyl.

Oh and clean them. Keep the dust off and any old records especially clean them before you play it. Get a $10 cleaning kit

The record player came with a velvet brush thingy to clean them.

I think I want to upgrade the needle soon.

Yeah you want that brush and there is also a solution to use with the brush. Any old pressings get cleaned this way before I play them.

  19. My dad has a big collection too!
He has taught me the proper etiquette of vinyl care
From getting out the slip cover
To dropping the disc into my palm
To centering in on the turntable
    Adjusting the turntable speed
Wiping the surface of the record
    And cleaning the needle
    (it does sound better)
