Lol I think the point to this arguement was if you were in the wild without knowing you were going to be lost in the wild... I can't really explain it.
It it were me, I'd probably eat some kind of vegetation. Most likely poisonous, and die! I wouldn't be able to catch something (even if I was starving and wanted to).

What if it wasn't dead? Would you kill it?

Our pets would eat us. Remember that plane crash or something where the survivours ate the other people? They had to. And when they were rescued they faced mega-society-look-down-upon-ness.

I wouldn't be able to eat my pet cat or birds. I mean, I haven't ever BEEN in a situation like that, so I can't say for sure, but I honestly don't think I could be able to live with myself. Just because I love them so much. If I did, I think I'd suffer major psychological damage :(
Imagine, having atoms in your body that once were part of your pet!

Maybe if you visited a battery hen 'building', saw them with your eyes, maybe even held one, maybe then you wouldn't love chicken so much?

"Sure do. Takes six months to a year to get all the animal chemicals out of
your system. Then you will be an herby. Now you are an applicant.
If you slip up, the count starts over."

    LauraMay:
"Wow, 6 months to a year? Why does it take so long?
Are there really alot of chemicals in animal products?"

I think it's because the human body has to do biochemical
contortions to deal with animal products. Takes that long
to change back and get rid of what it worked so hard to
    accept against its will.

    LauraMay:
"I haven't 'slipped up' so far, the only problem will be making seperate meals for the family lol. I wanted to try it out for a month, see if I got dizzy or tired or any of the things my mum told me would happen from the lack of iron. Do you think a month is long enough to base the effects on? I'm not tired, dizzy, or sick. I haven't been taking iron tablets or changing my diet in any way except having more pasta, brown rice, etc (and avoiding meat, of course!). Should I be? I've heard dark leafy vegies have alot of iron. I don't like spinach, though!"

Your mother is just another ignorant animal product addict who has been brainwashed
by the psuedo-scientists in the pockets of the trillion-dollar animal products industry.
Just smile and be kind and go your own way.

    Littlefoot:
"This is something that can't be faked. An herby can tell a non-herby by
their smell. It is a wonderful way to tell the progressivs from the
    psuedo-progressives."

    LauraMay
"That is really weird to me lol. Their smell? Freaky."

Just the way it is. People who eat animal products live in bodies that
are always trying to reject them. So they smell. The skin and lungs
are two main ways the body gets rid of what it doesn't want.

    Littlefoot:
"I think that the important issue here is that we are human beings and
    we can choose."

    LauraMay:
    "That's right!
My main reason for avoiding meat isn't the effect it has on my body, but the effect it had on the meats body. I hate the way animals are treated (e.g I heard battery chickens have about the space of an A4 size peice of paper?! and they get their beaks clipped off so they don't fight and the lights are kept on for most of the time...). And what for? Just because it's convenient.
Well, that's how I see it anyway."

Herbies have a much smaller ecological footprint. That's another very good reason.
Truthfully, humans can be healthy eating just about anything.

    LauraMay:
"Sorry about all the questions, I'm a beginner!"

You ask them for others as well as yourself. Nothing to be sorry about.

You seem to be the only one making up facts here. Like most of the stuff
    below.

You don't know me from Adam, yet you claim to know all about me.

Whoever said that, and I'm sure you don't have the balls to give us
your real name, is a snot-nosed punk.

My experiences living in the wilderness and near-wilderness would fill a book.
    Maybe several.

Just one little episode from my past will have to suffice here, with a little background
first. I was raised in a very small town in the Coast Range of extreme northern
California. The woods began a couple of hundred yards from my family home.

I was camping out with my buddies, hunting and trapping and fishing, from the
time I was about 7 years old. Back then, I bought the Mountain Man/Great
White Hunter/Tarzan bullshit. I was taught to track and hunt under primitive
conditions by the local Native Americans. Got to be pretty good at it. After
    about 10 years.

Much more recently, I walked off into a National Forest in the Rocky Mountains
with no clothes on and empty hands. I stayed there for six weeks and a day.
I had a wonderful time. If it wasn't for loneliness and the desperate condition
of the world, I would have never come back. I didn't use any animal products
    during that vacation.

There are hundreds of books on wild edible (and otherwise useful) plants. Anyone
can learn to identify the vast majority of them. Easily.

There are very few poisonous plants, and the vast majority of them taste
terrible. Most of the poisonous plants are not deadly. They'll just make
you sick if you are stupid enough to keep eating something that tastes
    terrible.

The very few really dangerous plants, like the Death Camas, which the
Native Americans of the Rocky Mountain region used to poison arrows
with, are well known to all the experts in the field and they make sure
their students know about them. (Most of those students being people
    who buy their books.)

You are an ignorant fuck and I seriously doubt that you even know what
    honesty is.

In a real survival situation you wouldn't last long enough to starve to death.

    I'll bet money on that.

I'm sure that you'll be back real soon, hiding behind another alias, and
vomiting garbage on this forum. Knock yourself out.

All of these insults and generalizations going back and forth are only proving to me that the majority of the people on this thread (possibly on this entire forum) are either insecure, ignorant, or both. This is almost painful to read.

So your insults are all peace and love and ours are not acceptable?

If you don't like it here, you arrogant hypocrite, go somewhere else.

This is exactly what I mean. I am an arrogant hypocrite for pointing out the obvious? I never said ANY insults were peace and love, so no, mine are not either. I am not on here calling people morons and implying I am better than someone else because of my diet, though. I pointed out there is a lot of insecurity and ignorance about this topic because it's true, not because I am trying to put others down. What I was trying to say is that this debate could be a lot more interesting if there were no personal attacks against each other. Nobody needs to act so rude and condemning about this topic. I notice you keep getting angrier and angrier, and I am just trying to do you a favor by telling you there is no reason to get so worked up. If that makes me arrogant, then I think we are thinking of different definitions.

I agree with lunarflowermaiden. People need to stop the insults.

Anyway I had some vegan lasagna today. It was really good.

Because an herby (vegan) has a much smaller ecological footprint than
the typical animal product consumer, and because our diets don't rely
on cruelty to animals, then we ARE superior.

I don't feel insecure about anything. You sound like another animal product
addict desperately seeking some way to discredit herbies.

There's that arrogance again. Has it occurred to you that simply don't have the
right to march into places and tell people how to behave? Obviously not.

If you don't like what I have to say, then fuck yourself.

And please tell us all why you have chosen me, who isn't the one who
    started it, to criticize.

And I'm telling you to mind your own business and run your own life.

That's not a request. It is a done deal.

Now run along. And before you return here again, please pull the stick
out of your butt and take your nose out of the air.

Umm... Why dont they have that right again?

And if they dont have that right... what gives you the right to say that?

Ohh... you must think you own this site. I get it.

Nobody is superior to anyone else. That's basically the point I was, and still am, trying to make here. You call me arrogant?! I think this is a fine example of projecting your own faults on to other people. You are acting extremely arrogant by the attitude of your posts.

I am a vegan. I wasn't referring to you when I said insecure. I was referring to those who feel the need to write multiple posts trying to discredit veggies and convert them back to eating meat and animal products. You are so wrapped up in your own anger that you greatly misunderstood both me and my post.

I never told anyone how to behave. I was suggesting this conversation would go to greater depths if there were no personal attacks involved. I knew there was a slim chance anyone would take heed from what I said, nor did I expect them to. I was voicing my opinion, which I am allowed to do.

This really doesn't deserve much of a response because it is rude and uncalled for.

I didn't "choose" anyone. I wasn't trying to call people out for an argument. You responded very angrily, and I was replying to what you had wrote.

I am telling you I am allowed to voice my opinion. Just because I think there is a lot of ignorance concerning this topic doesn't mean I am telling others how to run their lives. I am giving advice, and I have the freedom to do so on a public forum.

I was thinking quite the same about you.

I hope you never thought I was trying to do that. I have said before and I will say again I have respect for people who choose to go on a vegan diet. I just disagree with some of littlefoots theorys.

Your idea of "respect" is to march in and tell everyone that they have to
behave like you think they should.

You must be an American. Those assholes think they have a right to
tell everyone on the planet how to live.

I repeat: If you don't like what I have to say, or how I say it, then
    fuck yourself.

Good-bye. You are incredibly boring and you aren't wasting any more
    of my time.

Ah, no wonder you despise me so much. I am from a certain country, so you automatically hate me and will have it no other way. Well, I cannot help the country I was born in. There are good and bad people everywhere, you know. My idea of respect is far from what you have stated, but I will not waste my time trying to reason with someone who is so hateful and close-minded. I do apologize for having bored you. I wasn't exactly writing to keep you entertained, though. Have a good night.

It's off-topic in the extreme, for one obvious reason.

Clearly this person has an agenda that has nothing to do with
    the topic at hand.

Because it is off-topic in the extreme.

So you think that anyone should be able to march into any forum
and start ranting on any subject they want to? Wouldn't be much
left of the forums if that was to go on.

The Internet is full of losers who just wander around making trouble
while they hide behind numerous aliases.

You think we should let them wreck everything?

Speaking of which, that's exactly what I think this person is: Another
sockuppet of the troll that's been following me around the forums and
focussing entirely on criticizing me using whatever excuse is at hand.

You are being jerked around by a malicious head case who is laughing
    her/his head off.

I could call myself "moonflower_peace_and_good_vibrations" (or whatever
her [or his] silly name is) Anyone can call themselves anything.

Fascist_Forum_Wrecker would be a much more accurate name.

I'm not letting the troll jerk ME around any longer. If you want to
continue letting him/her make a fool out of YOU, go ahead.

That means I won't be reading your reply here, if any. Sorry. It's
    got to end.
