The argument of the cross vs. the stake devotes a lot of argument for little difference in worship. Shouldn't we be instead against materialism?
That's easy enough. Though formal equations exist for nature due to measuring IT, not one law of nature really exists for the phenomena of the World.
I get the idea. Yea worshiping the cross is probably something that any intellegent christian could tell is an absolute no-no. Because that would be idolatry... But wether or not a christian is worshiping the cross rather than god is tough to determine objectively. What is the cross for then? Well... think of it as a letter. Letter's remind us of something, spark a certain thought of a vowel or consonant. The cross, in a sense is much the same thing for christians. It is a reminder of an event, the crucifixion of christ. It is a symbol. It most definitely can be an idol just like anything else. But a true christian would not do such a thing I would assume. So, christians may feel free to put as many crosses they like on their clothes, jewelry, in their yard, on signs as they like. It is our choice as individuals how we present ourselves to others and decorate our property. I think it is definitely fair for us non-christians to ask and question what they are using their symbols for. Theres nothing wrong in taking interest in what someone else has displayed in their church or home and why they have it there. Its a good way to start an interesting and friendly conversation. But realize that in the end, the person is more than likely going to keep it the way it was, and justify its presence. And realize that they are not obligated to convince you that they are correct for having that symbol or decoration. It is their right and their freedom. Even if you can make a good case that they are being illogical, and I am NOT saying they are... it is their right. They have every right to be who they are, and they have every right to display it to their peers and take every consequence for how they display themselves to their peers. Yes, there are consequences for displaying who we are. But we are all somebody, so consequences for being who we are are unavoidable. I myself face my fair share of consequences for being who I am and displaying it...
