Chinese claims that Assad is a jolly "Santa Claus" and has not butchered his people (nor the Lebanese) does not pass the logic test. Nor is it logical that the US would bother with a small, relatively oil-free country unless they were destabilizing their neighbors.

Assad is such a lightning rod for insurgents that the only hope of pacifying the masses is to send him into exile to some remote desert place and let the reconciliation of the various factions begin.

I know that many will demand that he be killed or imprisoned for his genocide, but I think most people will agree that there can be no peace as long as he remains in power.

    Looking ahead a few years...

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.

In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth.

The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance." Isaiah chapter 19

Syrian rebels managed to abduct some of the top leadership of Hizballah after they were making arrangements to move their scuds to Lebanon for safekeeping at the outbreak of Syria's civil war. The scuds have been stored just outside Damascus at a military base to keep them safe from Israel.

So now not only do they have to move them to prevent rebels from getting their hands on them, but they get their karma back since Hizbollah has made kidnapping a big part of their politics. Now their own leaders are being held hostage!

I'm getting that feeling that Big Time Karma is coming to the Mideast!

    Interesting, Skip! Very interesting.

I didnt know about that *DEBKA* source you linked several times.

Finally I found some time to do research on that source.

Very interesting, you gotta know how the other side works.

I just finished reading the book by the ex- KATSA Ostrovsky, even if its 99% blabla, theres 1% interesting info in it but that 1% was really worth reading:2thumbsup:

So maybe the world needs to support the overthrow of the Iranian government while assuring Russia of their access to business opportunities in a new secular regime that follows.

With Iran no longer shipping weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon and various factions in Syria, the Near East would be a lot more peaceful place. Israel would not launch their destructive retaliatory attacks without the fuel that Iran provides to the fire. Iran has the been the root of the violence in the Middle East all along and the world should put out the fire at the source: Iran

But Assad has been so badly tarnished by genocide that he should seek exile. With Assad out of the way, Syria would not have this influx of foreign Jihadis. They would go home and Syrians would go back to life the way it was before the Assad family took over.

The Iranians that I have met are far too intelligent and freedom-loving to do that. They lack opportunity to achieve what they want, but its not for lack of vision.

Yeah, if only no one would react in a negative fashion when Israel steals land from other people in contravention of international law; and if no one would react negatively when Israel declares that it has passed a law that it can steal other people's land legally; and if you overlook the fact that the lone veto at the U.N. Security Council when it comes time to punish Israel for its attacks on its neighbors and its theft of their land comes from the good ole U.S.A., then I suppose Israel wouldn't have to retaliate when others take offense at their racist-style lawlessness.

And I would imagine that if you discount U.S. interventionist foreign policy in the Middle East, and the million people killed in Iraq and all the misery that comes with, and follows, that atrocity--which was all based on known lies--and you turn a blind eye to the U.S. as it supplies Israel with what it needs to continue breaking international law and stealing Palestinian land, and if you overlook the U.S. drone attacks on innocent civilians, then yeah, I guess it might in some way be plausible for a guy to believe that Iran is the root of all evil in the Middle East. But I wouldn't want to be that guy . . .

The thugs in charge of the good people of Iran are using far-away Israel to distract attention from their abuse of their own people, but you can't fool all the people all the time.
And particularly in Teheran, they are not fooled by the traffic engineer or the guys with long-beards.

How curious that you would ignore my whole post concerning the thugs of the U.S. who oppress and violate the soveriegnty of other countries and their peoples whenever it's convenient to their interests--even when they decide to kill a million people who were guilty of nothing. Are you really not aware of the fact that the U.S. supported Saddam Hussein and provided him with everthing he needed--including internationally banned weaponry--to kill people in other countries? Are you aware that the U.S. supported Mubarik right up until the people had had enought of that thug? And can you possibly be unaware of the U.S.'s support of the Saudi regime despite its obvious "thugness toward its own people"?

Can you explain how it is that you draw a distinction between those who oppress their own people, and those who oppress and murder the people of other countries? That would be a good place to start this discussion!

And perhaps you might consider chiming in on the lawlessness of the thugs of Israel.

    Dude,
If Assad goes into exile, then a lot of the unrest would quiet down.
It would only buy them some time, like it did in Egypt.
Eventually the government (mostly Alawawite) would have to come to terms with the mostly Shiite majority, but with things as they are now, everyone will be killing everyone else until the whole country is one big graveyard.
